In 1855, Harriet married William BOWEN. At an alledged 600 pounds, Hattie became known as "Big Hattie Bowen" and was on exhibition at the New York Museum and other places around the country. Hattie and William had several children: Emma, Elizabeth, Harriet R. and a stillborn. Hattie died of a stroke in 1895. Little except the bare bones is known of her interesting life. Fairhaven calls itself "The little town with a big history". Any information re her MORSE or BOWEN families would be very gratefully received.
Looking for descendants of this pair. Evelyn was from my family - her father was my grandfather's brother, and he emigrated from England to US in about 1907. He was Stephen Kite and went to Kansas State where Evelyn grew up.(she was born 1904 in England). After her marriage to Joseph Morse I think they moved to Idaho, wher they're buried in GRANGEVILLE. I've made contact with other cousins, descendants of Vince Kite, one of Evelyn's brothers. Evelyn and Joseph had at least 3 children, one called Burton J. born about 1926. Evelyn died in 1974, Joseph in 1968. Would love to hear from any descendants Rosemary Knutsen (née Kite)

Just started to research the Morse line and hit the wall running! Polly Morse m) Daniel Elliott 10 May 1797 in Sutton (Northbridge) MA. The only reference I have found for her is in the History of Sutton, MA 1704-1876, page 641 by Benedict & Tracy. They had a daughter Sarah (Siley) born in Croydon, NH Sep 1797. She married Charles Carroll 1n 1817. Polly could be Mary or Molly , Sarah having Siley and Selia as a name leads me to think Polly is a nick name. Her family may have come from Essex County earlier, but that is an assumption on my part. Any advise or direction is appreciated. Charlie

I am of the William Morse line. You may want to contact The Morse Society. They have Shepherds who are researchers that volunteer to help people with their Morse family lines. Each Shepherd handles one progenitor and maintains the master database for that line. They are available to help members research their lines at no charge. Annual membership dues are only $20.00 and they are a wonderful group of people. http://morsesociety.org/ You can post a query on their forum as a guest or e-mail research@morsesociety.org Good Luck!

Here is the Morse list address. I suspect they would have a better answer than I have. I have none unfortunately. The society has a great shepherd for the Anthony group and if she gets this via a copy, I['m sure she will start dialoging on the question raised above at her convenience. Researching two women named Mary MORSE who married men named HIXON/HIXSON, early 1700s Mass. I have: Ezra MORSE, son of Ezra3 (John2, Samuel1) and Joanna (Hoare) Morse, was born in Dedham (Mass.) January 28, 1671, d. 17 Oct 1760 Mass. He m. Mary ---- Ch: (1) Ezra MORSE b. 12 Nov 1694 Dedham, Mass., d. 23 Dec 1789 Mass. m. Anna WHITE Ch: Mary MORSE b. 5 May 1723 Dedham, Mass., d. after 1768 m. John HIXON (2) Mary MORSE b. 8 Apr 1710 Dedham or Walpole, Mass., d. aft 1760 m. Walter HIXSON If this is true, Mary b. 1723 was the niece of Mary b. 1710. John HIXON was the nephew of Walter HIXSON. Can anyone confirm the parents and birth date of Mary b. 1723? The 1886 book of Dedham records says "Keziah and Mary, daughters of Ezra and Ann Mars, were born May 5th, 1723." The index has no entries for MARS but does not list Ezra MORSE on this page. I suspect that the surname was actually MORSE. Thank you! Peter Morse, b. in Newbury, Mass, Oct 3, 1701, a son of William and Sarah (Merrill) Morse, of Newbury, married Tamosine Hale and moved to Hampstead (see vol 1, p 379). He was a member of the church at its organization June 3d 1752, and died in town, buried in the old burial ground at East Hampstead. He was early prominent in town and church affairs, and had been called “a man whose integrity none can question.” [Comment added by ELN: He was also a member of the first Board of Selectman] And Tamosine Hale, b. in Amesbury, Mass, a daughter of Henry and Sarah (Kelley) Hale, of Amesbury. She married Lieut. Peter Morse [above] Sept 30, 1726, adm. to the church from Amesbury at the organization June 3, 1752. She died in Hampstead and was buried in the old burial ground at East Hampstead. She had children (see pp 379-80, vol. 1—list did not include Sarah). Her son Peter b. July 7, 1739 (*the first child said to be recorded [emphasis made by the compiler] on the town records), and mar. Anna Currier—[it then lists the children of this Peter Morse Jr and his wife] *First child recorded in town records, but not in the church records. Before this published item was discovered, my own research had followed this Peter and Thomasin (Tamson) Hale Morse and come to the conclusion; that Sarah Morse was an unregistered child of this couple who moved from Newbury, MA to Hampstead, NH, and who had other children whose births were not recorded either.
