I have been searching like Jeff, to know the background of Hugh Morrow for some time now. I am a descendant from the Hugh Morrow-Julia Mems or Minns marriage in 1861. My Grandmother Julia Morrow was one of eleven children born from this marriage. My mother also told us that her grandfather Hugh, was from America and came to seek his fortune in the goldfields. I know a lot about his movements in Australia after he married, but nothing about where he came from and who were his parents. I checked the Passenger List for the ship 'Georges' in 1855 that landed in Sydney and was unable to find a Morrow in either the passenger or crew list, and have been unable to access the 1851 US Census. your information sheds a new light on the man and I thank you for it.
