I have noticed there is a discrepancy between the supposed date of arrival of Hugh in NSW (1855), and the time since Hugh and McNair had left the US according to the McNair letter - in 1857, McNair had been on a whaler for over 3 years, which is not consistent with arrival in 1855. Sure enough there is no passenger McNair on the "Georges" However, an H. Morrow and an H. W. McNair arrived at Melbourne, Victoria in May 1853 aboard the "Glance". This is consistent with the information in the letters, and it is also very likely that people coming to the goldfields in Australia, would come to Victoria (note that McNair was again in Victoria, in Yackandanda, when he replied to the letter).
