This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Morrow Shaw Hopkins White Kelso Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JN2.2ACIB/1504 Message Board Post: The Morrow DNA project has been underway for several months. The project's general goal is to test descendants of Southern Morrow families, particularly those who may be descended from the David Morrow of Norfolk Co, VA profiled in Ray's "Tennessee Cousins." We have found our first match. A descendant of Samuel Morrow, d. 1796 Spartenburg, SC matches a descendant of David Morrow (1762-1843) m. Margaret KELSO. David is a nephew or cousin of Samuel. One unverified manuscript says he is the son of David Morrow and Agnes WHITE. That David was Samuel's 1st cousin. Two other samples from people who thought they descended from Samuel's brothers do not match. Additional descendants are needed to figure out where the connection likely breaks down. If you have relatives descended from Elbridge Gerry Morrow (b. 1813 KY) or Robert Morrow m. Elizabeth SHAW 1779 NC in particular, please consider joining the project. There are also several other participants from different Southern families, so if you have Morrow relatives in Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia, Tennessee, North or South Carolina, Kentucky or Texas, please consider joining as well. Or at least check out the descendants from the David Morrow of Norfolk family at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~morrowdna A quick primer: DNA testing compares Y chromosomes of Morrow-surnamed (i.e. Morrow line is all male) men. An exact or close match means participants are related (within the past several hundred years). No match means participants are not related (within the past several hundred years). Test costs range from $99 (12 marker test, enough to rule you out as related to other participants) to $171 (25 marker test, enough to say you're reasonably related to another participant). For more information on the project and lines tested, see http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~amorrow/morrowdna.htm To see our collection of Morrow males we think might be connected to the David Morrow family of Norfolk, VA: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~morrowdna (please let me know of corrections!)
