Janean- The information I have on the ancestors of John MORROW and Mary SUTTON comes from a book titled "Knox: James Knox, Sr. and Elizabeth Craig Knox and their Descendants" compiled by Lorene K. Peterson and Jennie Bell Lyle, published by Peterson Printers in 1981. The book is out of print but you may be able to find it in the genealogical section of your library. I think that there is a copy of it in the Walker County Library in Jasper, AL, and in the Denver Public Library in Denver, CO, but I can't remember where I originally found it. I was able to purchase a used copy via eBay a couple of years ago. John MORROW was supposed to be one of the sons of Samuel MORROW, b. about 1743 in Ireland, d. 08 March 1835 in Tuscaloosa County, AL, and his wife Elizabeth KNOX, b. about 1753 in the Parish of Ballomoney, Antrim County, Ireland, d. between 1827 and 1833 in Fayette County, AL. Samuel MORROW is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Tuscaloosa County, AL. He was a Revolutionary War Veteran. This particular John MORROW was born abt. 1780 in Richburg (Chester Co.), SC, and died before the 1850 census, probably in Walker County, AL. His wife, Mary SUTTON, was b. 30 Sept. 1784 in Chester Co., SC, and d. 1860-1870 in Walker County. A COLE family Researcher, Nita Reed, whom I contacted via the Cole Family GenForum told me that she thought that both John MORROW and Mary SUTTON were buried in the Sardis Cemetery near Cordova in Walker County. I visited that cemetery on a trip to Walker County two years ago but was unable to locate any marked graves for them. If you contact the Walker County (AL) Genealogical Society they may be able to check their cemetery surveys to see if they can give you more information. Their web site can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Ealwalker/ I am descended from two of their sons: Samuel MORROW (listed as John MORROW in the 1860 census), b. abt. 1808 in TN (Nita Reed says b. 15 June 1808 in Bedford Co., TN), and died some time after the 1880 census, probably in Walker County (again, Nita Reed says he died 23 April 1891 in Walker County). He is one of my g-g-grandfathers. Samuel MORROW married Lydia BARTON, b. about 1806 in NC, d. after the 1880 census, probably in Walker County, AL. Lydia's father, Moses BARTON, was one of the pioneer settlers in Walker County. Jacob Sutton MORROW, b. 05 May 1813 in Bedford County, TN, d. 08 January 1895 in Cleburne (Johnson County), TX, is another of my g-g-grandfathers. Jacob Sutton MORROW was married 05 Sept. 1839 in Ft. Houston, TX, to Louisa Adeline BOX, b. 30 January 1824 in Blount Co., AL, d. 12 March 1902 in Sterling City (Sterling Co.), TX. Jacob Sutton MORROW is buried in the Morrow Cemetery, located west of Grandview on FM 916 at CR 419 in Johnson County, TX. Louisa Adeline Box MORROW is buried in the Sterling City Cemetery in Sterling, TX. J. S. MORROW was a pioneer settler of Texas, and was an Indian Scout out of Ft. Houston in Anderson County, TX. He was also a Captain of the Grandview Cavalry (CSA) from Johnson County, TX, during the Civil War.
