THE DAVID AND SHIRLEY MORROW FAMILY Part II - Morrow Ancestors II-B-1 B - Foster Morrow - Grandfather of David David has no recollection of anyone ever speaking about his grandfather, and never knew his name until 1986 from research documents. Unquestionably he was a farmer. Whether he could read or write we do not know. We learn the following, about Foster Morrow from public documents: 1. Certified death record, District of Ely, Enniskillen, for Foster Morrow. Died December 28,1921, in Toneel. Age last birthday - 103. Occupation - farmer. Present at death, Catherine Morrow, widow. His exact birth date in 1818 is not shown. 2. Marriage record, District of Cootehill, shows that Foster Morrow, bachelor, and Sarah Reid, spinster, of Corracalbey, parish of Ashfield, were married in the parish church of Ashfield on May 5, 1868, in the presence of William Reid and Thomas Martin. The record also shows the parents as being Richard Morrow and Thomas Reid, both farmers. 3. Death record, District of Ely, County Fermanagh, page 65, shows that Sarah Morrow died in Toneel on December 14, 1878, at the ago of 40. The next entry shows the death of Foster S. Morrow, age 14 days, on December 20,1878. 4. Marriage record, Town of Enniskillen, District of Enniskillen - Foster Morrow widower, farmer, of Toneel, parish of Boho, on September 2, 1879, married Catherine Burgess, spinster, of Derins, parish of Cleenish, County Fermanagh in the presence of Arthur Burgess and Sarah Burgess. The parents were shown as Robert Morrow and William Burgess. Whether Foster's father was named Richard (as shown on marriage record to Sarah) or Robert (to Catherine) is not known. 5. Children of Foster Morrow, by Sarah Reid Morrow William, March 23, 1868, Corracalbey, Parish of Ashfield, County Cavan, Registrar's District of Cootehill, per Joan Phillipson. Anne Jane - April 5, 1870 Mary Jane - June 18, 1871 Thomas Alexander - March 9, 1873 Christopher Robert - April 20, 1874 Foster Samuel - December 20, 1875. Probably 1878. This date is inconsistent with the Ely death register, infra All except William were born in Toneel, a segment of the parish of Boho, County Fermanagh. Data are extracted from the Registers of the Church of Ireland by W. T. McAllister, Rev. Chancellor, and reported in a letter to David dated April 7, 1986. Sarah Reid Morrow died December 14, 1878, probably from birth complication: 6. Children of Foster Morrow by Catherine Burgess Morrow, as reported by the Rev. McAllister Sarah - November 7, 1880 Charlotte - April 20, 1882 Margaret Alice - February 10, 1885. Born in Farnaconnell 7. Subsequent History A. William, Thomas, and Christopher emigrated to the U.S.A. and lived their lives there. See separate descriptions under William and under Siblings. B. Anne Jane - no record C. Mary Jane - buried December 14, 1887 at age 16 per Boho Church register. D. Foster Samuel died December 20, 1878, having lived 14 days (six days after the death of his mother). This is inconsistent with the Boho church register, which shows his birth date as December 20, 1875. E, We have no knowledge of the life of Catherine Burgess Morrow, nor of her children Sarah, Charlotte, and Margaret Alice other than their birth dates shown in the Boho church register. The Burgess Connection Sept. 18, 1846 - William Burgess, son of William, married Jane Hurst, daughter of George Hurst. Sept. 9,1851- Jane Burgess, widow, daughter of George Hurst, married John Breen. Feb. 21,1868 - John Irving Burgess, son of William Burgess, married. Sept. 2, 1879 - Catherine Burgess married Foster Morrow. Catherine's father was William Burgess. Presumably her mother was Jane Hurst Burgess. Foster's son Thomas married Margaret (Maggie) Jane Donaldson Her mother was Alice Donaldson. Foster married Alice's sister. So Alice was Alice Burgess, sister of Catherine. Tom Morrow, son of Foster, was thus married to the daughter of Foster's sister in law. Alice Donaldson emigrated to the U.S.A. and lived in Brooklyn. Around 1900 she apparently provided living quarters for Thomas, William, and Christopher Morrow, presumably creating the opportunity for the attachment between Tom and Maggie. Exhibits I. Record of marriage of Foster to Sarah Reid, May 5, 1868, Ashfield, County Cav? II. Record of marriage of Foster to Catherine Burgess, September 2, 1879, Ennis III. Death Certificate, Foster, December 21, 1921. Died at Toneel.
