Please share any information that you have that is not included here. Born in Warrenton, Virginia, educated at Rittenhouse Academy in Washington, D.C., Henry Andrew Morrow served as a Senate page. He opened a law practice in Detroit, and with the onset of Civil War, served with the Black Hats of the Twenty Fourth Michigan Infantry, the highly regarded "The Iron Brigade." On the first day of the battle Morrow was severely wounded carrying the colors while commanding the Black Hats of Iron Brigade on McPherson's Ridge, and he was awarded a Brevet General promotion. Following the war he resumed his status as a regular army officer, and served in the west. He was made commander at Fort Rawlins in Provo, Utah and warmly received by non-Mormons. He was twice made the commander of Camp Douglas, in Salt Lake City, from October 22, 1870 to June 30, 1871; and from October 5, 1871 to August 27, 1874. Following his tenure there the editor of the Salt Lake Tribune of July 8, 1871 described him as "a thorough soldier, a strict disciplinarian, honored ! in his profession, a brilliant conversationalist, a true and reliable gentleman." Another tribute signed by seventy two prominent officials, professional men and business men of Utah Territory was published in the same newspaper on July 27, 1871.
