    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: BillMorrow38 Surnames: Morrow Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrow/2025.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Jeff, thanks for joining our Morrow DNA Testing Project. I'm Co-Adminstrator along with Amelia Morrow Gerlicher. We're not paid anything, this is part of our hobby of genealogy. DNA testing is a new tool for the genealogist, proving who's really kin to whom, biologically. The testing company we use will be mailing your DNA kit to you tomorrow. The kit is small so it shouldn't take too long getting to you. Instructions are included. It's a cheek swab, simple & painless, like brushing your teeth. Two vials are included in the kit, the second is just in case the first vial's DNA sample wasn't sufficient or became contaminated. Take your samples per instructions, I took mine before I brushed my teeth in the am, then the second sample the next am. Then mailed the kit back to the testing company. Got my results six weeks later. They sent a certificate showing my test results, plus there are seven or so "personal pages" prepared within the testing company's website, for specific DNA results, that only the donor can access. The testing company sends you the code (password) and kit number used to access your personal pages. Your privacy is guaranteed. Only a few staff members of the testing company, myself and Co-Administrator Amelia Morrow Gerlicher! know your name. You'll be assigned a kit number which keeps your name private. The testing company will send emails on any matches of your test results with other donors. That's where Amelia and I come in. Either Amelia or I will also email you with our analysis of your test results, especially if you match any of our current Morrow donors close enough for proof of kinship. "Close enough" means if you and another Morrow donor match at least 23 of the 25 markers and are no more than two single step mutations different on the remaining two markers. We will help coordinate between yourself and any Morrow donors of our group which you match. Usually I try to help further develop each donors Morrow lineage, but in your case, I hit the same "brick wall" you hit. Hopefully DNA testing will match you with one or more of our current donors and give you help towards finding more Morrow generations back of your Hugh Morrow born c.1832 in Ohio USA. But if no immediate matches occur, sooner or later, another donor will join and you'll have your match. DNA testing is here to stay. I'll be emailing later directly to your email address with other aspects of our Morrow DNA group. Thanks again for joining. 2. Morrow Family
    3. Thank you. Otis Simon "Bill" Morrow was my first cousin, twice removed. His sister, Bertha Ruth (Morrow) Loiler, died in San Antonio, TX, in 1985; she had no children. Bill was twice married and twice divorced -- with one child from each marriage. I have been unable to learn what happened to his families. He first married Doris Milligan in 1932. They had a daughter, Barbara Sue Morrow, who married James Roberts and had three children. I have not found Doris or the Roberts family. He second married Marjorie Ann Baldwin. A nurse, she died at Fort Leonard Wood (MO) hospital in 1988. She left a son, Carl Baldwin Morrow, who may have lived in Wyoming. Even his father, Otis Sylvester Morrow, is a family mystery, who abandoned one family in Taylor County, Iowa, started another in Parsons, KS, but eventually left them, too. If anyone knows of these people -- livng or dead -- I would like to hear of it. Our family historian has always maintained that Andrew and Sarah had 7 sons that fought with numerous Iowa military units in the Civil War. They were George and William in the 15th infantry, Amos in the 4th Iowa Battery, John and Thomas in the 29th Iowa Infantry, Rozzell and Allen in the 15th Infantry. I cannot find any information on Rozzell and Allen. Rozzell was my great-grandfather. He was a fifer and joined the military from Glenwood in 1862 at age 15. His obit states that he was transferred to the United States Patrol Guards in 1864 until the end of the war. Some in our family also have a book from Mrs. Wiles. Author: BillMorrow38 Surnames: Morrow Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrow/2024.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Tina, You asked if I was related to your Morrow line who lived in Cocke County Tn in the late 1800's early 1900's? I don't think I'm related to your Morrow line, but only yDNA testing would really answer your question. It would take a living male Morrow from your line to be the DNA donor, tho. I've already been tested, and if your donor and I matched yDNA, that would prove we had a common ancestor somewhere back in time. The test results don't say "how" you are kin, just that you are. The lab can predict how far back the common ancestor lived by how close a match occures between donors. My direct Morrow line lived in Maryland during the early 1700's then moved to the Chester County area of South Carolina by 1766, then descendants moved to Fayette County Alabama by 1826, then descendants moved to Chickasaw County Mississippi by 1870, then to Texas by 1893, then into Tishomingo, Indian Territory by 1903, which became part of Johnston County Oklahoma in 1907. My family has lived here since. I'm retired, and the Co-Administrator of the Morrow DNA Testing Project, plus other DNA groups. I'm not paid anything, it's just part of my hobby of genealogy. Why did I research your line? I like to help all Morrow descendants find their Morrow roots. Freebees. That's part of my hobby, too. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: BillMorrow38 Surnames: Morrow Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrow/2025.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Jeff Morrow, I couldn't find anything on your Hugh Morrow b. c1832 in Ohio. Perhaps if you knew the county in Ohio he was born? I'm Bill Morrow, Co-Administrator of the Morrow DNA Testing Project (worldwide). I suggest you join our Morrow DNA Testing Project. By testing your yDNA, you might match one or more of our current members and that would prove kinship. More hopes, that they had more generations back in their Morrow lineage and you'd be able to find Hugh's parents names. We have several donors whose roots include Ohio, so you might find a match with current donors, but sooner or later, a match will come along, DNA testing is here to stay. It's a great tool for genealogists. The way it works is that the DNA is passed from father to son(s) virtually unchanged for eons. So when two living males with the same or similar surname match yDNA, it is proof positive they share a common ancestor. His name is not known, but the lab can predict how far back he lived by the closeness of the match. The DNA sample is a cheek swab, simple and painless. A kit will be mailed to your address, you take the sample, mail the kit back. Tests take 6-8 weeks. You privacy is guaranteed. The test is ! for inheritance only, not a health or police type test, and therefore is cheaper. Currently it's $148 USA plus mailing fee, $2 in USA, Australia would be abit higher. That would pay for the yDNA 25 marker test which I recommend. There are numerous other tests available. Incidentally, I'm not paid anything, I'm strictly a volunteer whose hobby is genealogy. Here's the link to our website, click onto it and learn more about yDNA testing. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~amorrow/morrowdna.htm Bill Morrow of Oklahoma USA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
