This gang broke up in 1892. I have no knowledge about an FBI file, and would love for Betty to tell us more about that. My information came from books, newspaper clippings, and a descendant of the Sheriff who was killed. ("Buddy") Morrow. I got it from a descendant and, later, census records: John Hilliard ("Buddy") Morrow, son of David Wesley Morrow and Elizabeth ("Eliza") Elliott, b. June 3, 1850; d. October 8, 1892. John was placed with his brother, William, in the home of Azariah P. Bailey. By 1870, he had moved to Texas to live with his sister, Minerva, and her family. He married Sally Moon. In 1880, John and wife Sally are living in Fincastle, Henderson, Texas. The census shows that Sally was born in Georgia. Also in their home are two sons, David Porter (age 2, TX) and Hall (age 7m, TX). Vital Records Index - North America shows a record of the birth of their daughter, Emma Erin, born May 4, 1884 in Henderson, Texas. The recorded names of the parents are John Hilary Anderson Morrow and Sarah Ann Moon. Information that this child died in 1890 came from a descendant of John's youngest brother, McKendree Tucker Morrow. I hope this information helps someone. He was not a single man when he left for the gold fields of California, and then on to Australia. He left behind a wife and baby daughter. We have been searching to find what became of him for years! I was so excited to find your posting here. The following is in our Thompson History Book "Rebecca Ursula "Sula" Thompson married Hugh Morrow on 7 April 1852. That fall, Hugh left for the gold fields of California and then on to seek his fortune in Australia. The last heard of him was a letter postmarked Valeria, Australia. Thus the name of his baby girl, whom he never saw. He did, however, send back gold enough to make rings for his wife and daughter." Hugh Morrow was born 19 Dec 1833 a son of John and Elizabeth Morrow. He married Sula Thompson who never remarried and who died 28 Jun 1902. Their daughter was Valeria Australia "Vallie" Morrow who married George Henry Wiseman. etc. I have in the family archives a letter written on behalf of Sula Thompson Morrow and her family, to a Mr. Robert McNair inquiring about his son Henry McNair, who sailed for Australia with Hugh Morrow. He is asking for any information they might have of Hugh Morrow. In part, it reads,"You will please answer this immediately and enclose it in the within envelope. Now should I be addressing one who has gone to his grave, I ask it as a particular of those whose hands this may fall into to please give it their attention as Mr. Morrow has living here a wife and child and many friends who feel deeply interested in his welfare. And humanity demands at every hand some aid in such matters." This letter was dated 18 Sep 1856. A reply was written 26 Oct 1857. " Dear Sir, Since receiving your letter of 3d inst. I have received a letter from my long lost son in Australia which is the first satisfactory account that I have had of his existance in three years and I think a little longer. His letter came to hand Friday last, the 23 inst. He spoke of having been in a whaling voyage for the last three years and gives this as a reason why we have not heard from him in so long. At the time he wrote however, which was June 30th, he had returned to the gold fields in company with a cousin of Mrs. McNair's by the name of RA Warner through whom we first heard that our son was still alive. He says nothing in his letter about Mr. Morrow and probably has not known him for the last three years. But I have written to have him tell us of his whereabouts and shall now write to have him advertise and you can remind him of it if you wish. This address DBHW McNair. Yachandandah, Victoria District, Australia....Be of good cheer, our lost friends will wend their weary way to the home of their childhood and the bosom of their friends sooner or later if they are spared to satisfy their vain desires for that which satisfieth not. Respectfully yours H.R. McNair. ps. I will write you if any news comes of Mr. Morrow. I will send it to my son with yours to the office." No further news came of Hugh Morrow. I suspected he started a new family in Australia. I would love to correspond and share information. Can you answer this one question at least? Did Hugh Morrow find the fortune he was seeking? - Janette L. Thompson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Martin age 13 Mo; David Morrow 14 born Iowa; Martha Martin 6 born Mo; Sarah A. Morrow 10 born Indiana; Virginia Morrow 8 Indiana; Robt S. Morrow age 3 born Missouri; (this is son of Robert Samuel Morrow and your line. Your Robert died 1858 in Miami County Indiana, from some sources). 1870 census Iowa, Pottawattamie County, Silver Crk twp, Council Bluffs, pg 209b: 23/23 Martin, Abner 48 Ohio; Elisabeth 38 Ohio; W. Martin 16; Lisa 10; Margaret 8; Artha 6; Julia 4; Aliza 3; Tobitha 8months; Morrow, Virginia 17 born Indiana; Morrow, Robt S. age 12 born Mo; Here's a website: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3329222&id=I00800 I found where Robert married Elizabeth Elliott 1848 in Grant, Indiana, that's Greene Co. Looked over the 1850 index of Greene Co In, no Robert Morrow. Daughter Sarah Ann Morrow is shown to have been born in Indianapolis Indiana in 1850, that twp of Marion Co Indiana is 148 pages, too large to do a page by page search. Bottom line, you have hit what's called a "big brick wall" in finding the names of the parents of your Robert Samuel Morrow. I'm not telling you anything you didn't already know, I've seen your postings back to 2001. I have a recommendation, that you try DNA testing. It's a new way to prove your Morrow biological line. This type DNA testing involves males only since only the Y chromosome is tested. The DNA of the Y chromosome is passed from father to son(s) virtually unchanged over the eons. Women do not possess the Y chromosome, so that's the reason you need to find a living male Morrow from your line to be the DNA donor. The lab only needs a cheek swab, simple and painless. So I recommend you coax your father, or a brother or Morrow cousin in joining the Morrow DNA testing project. Hopefully their yDNA test results will match one or more of our current donors and you would have proof positive which Morrow line you descend from. I saw where you corresponded with BGRAY10569 at aol.com, and she thought you both shared a common Morrow line. I've emailed her in the past and her line is represented in our group, so your line should have a match. If you do get a match, then you will know which Morrow line to focus on in your future research. Email me if you are interested in sponsoring a living male Morrow of your line in our Morrow group.
