I have been searching like Jeff, to know the background of Hugh Morrow for some time now. I am a descendant from the Hugh Morrow-Julia Mems or Minns marriage in 1861. My Grandmother Julia Morrow was one of eleven children born from this marriage. My mother also told us that her grandfather Hugh, was from America and came to seek his fortune in the goldfields. I know a lot about his movements in Australia after he married, but nothing about where he came from and who were his parents. I checked the Passenger List for the ship 'Georges' in 1855 that landed in Sydney and was unable to find a Morrow in either the passenger or crew list, and have been unable to access the 1851 US Census. your information sheds a new light on the man and I thank you for it. If you want to know more about the Australian life of Hugh Morrow, I am happy to exchange details via my email pcmkr@ngvemail.com Thank you again and I look foward rto hearing from you soon. I have been unable to get into the 1851 US Census and after checking the Passenger List for the Ship 'Georges' on 5 July 1855, found there were no Morrows listed either passenger or crew. I will contact Jeff Morrow to see if we can lock it down a bit better. I will let you know if successful. By the way, it appears that if you are Australian and you and your family lived/live in NSW, we may be related. Hugh had a daughter 'Emily Jane' who married William John Martin at Glebe in Sydney, and had a son William and as I know it, at least four other daughters. My grandmother was Emily's sister Julia who married John Gibbs and produced my mother Muriel. When I was young, Emily came to live with us in Canberra and stayed until she died at home in 1958. If you are from that line, I would like to contact further with you off the message board at pcmkr@ngvemail.com. 3. Well first of all this isn't a message board it's a list server. Sometimes people only need to inquire about one thing and are not researching a particular family name and/or in a particular town so they don't subscribe to these lists because they only have one question and why get all these emails daily. You post to the list once and you're good to go till hopefully you get answers. The message boards are then 'gatewayed' to their respective lists if they have one. Not everyone who posts to the message boards also belongs to the list so in order for WE the subscribers to be able to answer them we must click on the link in order to respond to them via the board or they will never see your answer. It shouldn't be any problem getting to the boards via the link. It's all run by Rootsweb/Ancestry which is the same as the mailing lists. >From the message boards you cannot access someone's email as it is protected and you must answer it via the board (not privately) This keeps spam and the like from getting everyone's email address. So if you want to respond to a message board post you have to follow the link. Not everyone wants to subscribe to a list.
