    1. Re: [MORROW-L] Re: Samuel Morrow PA/OH/WI 1880
    2. Hi Kristine, Fascinating to hear from you. Yes, I think we have a connection. It just needs some work. A little history.....more than you wanted, I'm sure. One of my main lines is the Andrews family of Jefferson Co., Ohio. Samuel Andrews, parents unknown, possible wife Elizabeth, fought in the War of 1812 from Jefferson Co along with his brother John. Sam had seven children, William, a daughter whose name we have not found, Eleazor, James, George (my ancestor), Hannah and John. Anyway, Hannah married Samuel Morrow (b. abt 1820 in PA) on March 21, 1843 in Carroll Co., Ohio. Hannah died sometime during 1863 and is buried at Scroggsfield Cemetery in Carroll Co. They had children James, John W., David O. Easter Jean, and Hannah Marry. That info I had from the 1860 census. Then Sam disappeard, but left young Hannah Mary to be raised by her uncle James Andrews and his wife who were childless. I found a Samuel Morrow in Wisconsin on the 1880 census who might have fit the age and he was born in Ohio. While doing some research in Richland Co., Ohio last year I found a little note in the Republican Observer of June 11, 1885. "We have received from Jordan Springs, Kansas, an obituary notice announcing the death at that place of Samuel Morrow, a former resident of Richland county, who died at the age of sixty-six." Then, from a book on genealogical events from newspapers for Crawford, Vernon and Grant counties James Morrow "Died Aug. 18, 1901 at his home in Mound Park. Born Apr.6, 1847 in Carl Co., Ohio. Survived by 5 of his 11 children: Maggie, Samuel, Will, Nettie and Grace. Also survived by wife, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. After marriage, Morrow moved to Kansas. Moved to Richland Co, WI on March 10, 1874, where he resided until his move to Mound Park. OK, I claimed him as the son of Samuel. Now it looks like Samuel was married three times. 1st to Hannah Andrews, then from the list of kids and their ages on the 1880 census a second wife and 3rd time to his wife in 1880, a Mary J. who was only 32 years old. If you have not seen it, the 1880 census lists Sam, Mary J. (32 OH), Levi (13 WI), Barbara A. (11 WI), Mary E. (10 WI), and Joseph S. (1 WI) as well as Lizzie Neely (dau 6 WI) and David Thorp (son 4 WI). So we have accounted for 8 (or 10 if you count Mary's children) of James' surviving 6 brothers and 4 sisters. But, not all of the ones I have named may have survived James, and was he counting Hannah Mary still in Ohio????? I have found so far that David O. died in 1928 and is buried at Viola Cemetery in Vernon Co. And Easter (or Esther) married John Kanable and died in 1936, also buried at Viola. James and much of his family is buried there also. This, of course, leads to loads of questions. But yes, I do think your Marion was one of Sam's kids, probably from the 2nd wife. And lots more research to do. My favorite question is where is Jordan Springs, Kansas? And what was Sam doing there? Please, let's exchange information!!!!!!!! You might also want to contact Janice Hegge, 309 Second Ave NW, PO Box 306, Spring Grove, MN 55974. Not sure how she is related, but I know she is also working on this family. Serena in Michigan

She was also born in Viola in 1874. Marion had a brother by the name of Omar A. Morrow, whom was his partner in a masonry/concrete buisness in Fulton Ill in the early 1900's. We have many correspondence from these relatives to Marion and his wife Ginnie, my great grandmother. They resided in Fulton, Ill, their entire married life. Minnie W. Tharp (could this be Thorp) is also one who writes, "Dear Brother". Are these names and places pure coinsidence or could my great-grandfather, Marion, be another child of Samuel. My family has very little information beyond this point, but would be happy to share with anyone what we do have. Please respond if any of this sound familiar to you.
