Many of us think that morrow came from McMurrough and ancient Irish name from around Dublin. Others think that Morrow is Scot Irish. For the most of us morrow is a purely Irish name going back at least 1000 years.

The information you provided is about 50-100 yrs too recent to be of help. The line I'm researching is David Morrow from County Antrim, Ire, arriving in Charleston, S.C. in 1772 - James Gillis Morrow, bn 1772 on board the Lord Dunluce - John Brown Morrow, bn 1802 - John McGready Morrow, bn 1835, md Adora Elled Reed. I have no information on her family but a Robert READ, Gilbert and Hugh REED came to America on the Lord Dunluce with David and Elizabeth Morrow. As these families often married one another, I was wondering if there is any connection.

This was in my file as hard copy. You may be interested. THE DAVID AND SHIRLEY MORROW FAMILY Part II - Morrow Ancestors II-B-1 B - Foster Morrow - Grandfather of David David has no recollection of anyone ever speaking about his grandfather, and never knew his name until 1986 from research documents. Unquestionably he was a farmer. Whether he could read or write we do not know. We learn the following, about Foster Morrow from public documents: 1. Certified death record, District of Ely, Enniskillen, for Foster Morrow. Died December 28,1921, in Toneel. Age last birthday - 103. Occupation - farmer. Present at death, Catherine Morrow, widow. His exact birth date in 1818 is not shown. 2. Marriage record, District of Cootehill, shows that Foster Morrow, bachelor, and Sarah Reid, spinster, of Corracalbey, parish of Ashfield, were married in the parish church of Ashfield on May 5, 1868, in the presence of William Reid and Thomas Martin. The record also shows the parents as being Richard Morrow and Thomas Reid, both farmers. 3. Death record, District of Ely, County Fermanagh, page 65, shows that Sarah Morrow died in Toneel on December 14, 1878, at the ago of 40. The next entry shows the death of Foster S. Morrow, age 14 days, on December 20,1878. 4. Marriage record, Town of Enniskillen, District of Enniskillen - Foster Morrow widower, farmer, of Toneel, parish of Boho, on September 2, 1879, married Catherine Burgess, spinster, of Derins, parish of Cleenish, County Fermanagh in the presence of Arthur Burgess and Sarah Burgess. The parents were shown as Robert Morrow and William Burgess. Whether Foster's father was named Richard (as shown on marriage record to Sarah) or Robert (to Catherine) is not known. 5. Children of Foster Morrow, by Sarah Reid Morrow William, March 23, 1868, Corracalbey, Parish of Ashfield, County Cavan, Registrar's District of Cootehill, per Joan Phillipson. Anne Jane - April 5, 1870 Mary Jane - June 18, 1871 Thomas Alexander - March 9, 1873 Christopher Robert - April 20, 1874 Foster Samuel - December 20, 1875. Probably 1878. This date is inconsistent with the Ely death register, infra All except William were born in Toneel, a segment of the parish of Boho, County Fermanagh. Data are extracted from the Registers of the Church of Ireland by W. T. McAllister, Rev. Chancellor, and reported in a letter to David dated April 7, 1986. Sarah Reid Morrow died December 14, 1878, probably from birth complication: 6. Children of Foster Morrow by Catherine Burgess Morrow, as reported by the Rev. McAllister Sarah - November 7, 1880 Charlotte - April 20, 1882 Margaret Alice - February 10, 1885. Born in Farnaconnell 7. Subsequent History A. William, Thomas, and Christopher emigrated to the U.S.A. and lived their lives there. See separate descriptions under William and under Siblings. B. Anne Jane - no record C. Mary Jane - buried December 14, 1887 at age 16 per Boho Church register. D. Foster Samuel died December 20, 1878, having lived 14 days (six days after the death of his mother). This is inconsistent with the Boho church register, which shows his birth date as December 20, 1875. E, We have no knowledge of the life of Catherine Burgess Morrow, nor of her children Sarah, Charlotte, and Margaret Alice other than their birth dates shown in the Boho church register. The Burgess Connection Sept. 18, 1846 - William Burgess, son of William, married Jane Hurst, daughter of George Hurst. Sept. 9,1851- Jane Burgess, widow, daughter of George Hurst, married John Breen. Feb. 21,1868 - John Irving Burgess, son of William Burgess, married. Sept. 2, 1879 - Catherine Burgess married Foster Morrow. Catherine's father was William Burgess. Presumably her mother was Jane Hurst Burgess. Foster's son Thomas married Margaret (Maggie) Jane Donaldson Her mother was Alice Donaldson. Foster married Alice's sister. So Alice was Alice Burgess, sister of Catherine. Tom Morrow, son of Foster, was thus married to the daughter of Foster's sister in law. Alice Donaldson emigrated to the U.S.A. and lived in Brooklyn. Around 1900 she apparently provided living quarters for Thomas, William, and Christopher Morrow, presumably creating the opportunity for the attachment between Tom and Maggie. Exhibits I. Record of marriage of Foster to Sarah Reid, May 5, 1868, Ashfield, County Cav? II. Record of marriage of Foster to Catherine Burgess, September 2, 1879, Ennis III. Death Certificate, Foster, December 21, 1921. Died at Toneel.

Hello.. If you ever run into Robert W. Morrow born in 1824 in Washington Co., PA, please let me know. I have lots of information about him and his line including pictures.
What a nice piece of information to have! Has anyone researched this family enough to know the names of the 11 brothers?!!! I hope someone who cherishes it has the old chest! My earliest known Morrow came from Ireland but I think he was carried by a big bird and dropped into PA (Washington Co. and most of his life, Allegheny county) - I have found no traces of his arrival. His name was David Morrow and he was born ca 1759 if one is to believe the gravestone which stated that he was 80 years of age when he died 23 Dec 1839 in Allegheny Co., PA His wife was Elizabeth ______. David is a notable family name, at least from my David on down, so I would be interested in knowing if one of those brothers was a David. My David's children were, in order, Arthur, Matthew, Catherine, Mary, Sara, Elizabeth, William, David, Hugh and Thomas. They were born between 1788 & 1807. Each of the above six sons had a son named DAVID, and much the same down the line..My descent is David, David, David Forbes, Wallis Delos and John Morrow, my father. Wallis Delos also named a son David. The first two Davids were elders etc. in the Old Bethel Presbyterian Church in Allegheny County, PA., and later the second David and his wife were also active in the Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church in Wayne Co., OH as they migrated, and later a Presbyterian Church was founded in their home in Missouri. Any one from this family? My GGG Grandfather was David Morrow, also "from Ireland", born ca 1759. He married Elizabeth ______, lived in Washington Co & Allegheny Co. PA. David and Elizabeth had children: Arthur, Matthew, Catherine, Mary, Sara (Sally), Elizabeth, William, David, Hugh and Thomas, born between ca 1788 and 1807. David died 23 Dec 1839 in Allegheny Co PA, "in the 80th year of his life". I am searching for information on his immigration date and place, possible brief service during the Revolution, marriage date and place, and Elizabeth's last name. I have a Joseph Morrow b.1760 who claims he was born in Antrim Ireland. He died 1835 in Chester Co. S.C. His father was David Morrow b. 1731 and mother Agnes White Crockett. I have MANY Morrow names but little information on them with the exception of this direct line of mine. The information and locations, dates are a little sketchy since there were so many but believe they are all of the same families. Other lines associated in S.C. with these Morrows were Kelso, Wylie. I am looking for information about William Morrow who I believe moved from Newberry County South Carolina to Buncombe Co., NC where he was buying land in 1798 and selling it in 1808 prior to moving to Barren Co., KY and later to Warren Co., TN where he died & his estate sale took place in January of 1828. He had a son named David and daughters named Ann, Lydia & Rachael. Ann married William Wallace 12 Aug. 1808 in Barren Co., KY, Rachael married John Jay about 1806 probably in Buncombe Co., NC and Lydia married William Jay about 1813 in Warren Co., TN. M.G. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Morrow, Murray, Baseley, Thomas Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JN2.2ACIB/1493 Message Board Post: I am looking for the family of James and Robert Murray from Northern Ireland. According to a letter written from James to Robert in 1806 James was born on June 24, 1742. The family story is that he and Robert came to Baltimore and changed their name to Morrow upon landing. They had been in a fight with some Catholic Murrays on board ship and didn't want people to think they were Catholic (they were Presbyterian). James apparently stayed in Maryland and Robert went to Pennsylvania, first to Path Valley and then to Sinking Valley. There may well be other siblings than James and Robert. James was in Baltimore in July, 1806. His wife died on December 13, 1805 (her name is unknown). He had a son George (who was the head miller at Mrs. Carrol's), a son James (who went south in about 1803) and daughters Dorcas (married a Mr. Thomas), Margery, Lydia and Rebecca (married Thomas Baseley and had at least three children, Samuel, Richard and ?. As of July 1806 only Samuel was known to be alive). Dorcas took in the Baseley children after their mother's death on January 7, 1806. James definitely was using the name Morrow in 1806 and Robert seems to have been using both Morrow and Murray at this time. I would appreciate any information on the above named people and/or families. If you recognize the 'shipboard fight' story I would also be interested in knowing about it. Many thanks for your help. Jean Horn
