Cindy Casey has an excellent web site unfortunately we are all at the 'brick wall'. Thank you.
My name is Jason Delaney Drawhorn, and I live in Birmingham, AL. I am not related to any Morrow family member; however, my great-grandfather, Geroge Henry Colmyer of Albion, New York, sent a Ms. Carrie Morrow and a Mr. Masson Morrow both of E. Bloomfield, New York several post cards during WWI. I also have a photo of him and a "Mrs. Morrow" from circa 1900. I would be glad to send someone a copy of this photo if they are related to Carrie, and can tell me more about the Morrow family in East and West Bloomfield New York. Thanks Jason

Does anyone know the names of Joseph's siblings? My David Morrow was said to have been born in "Ireland" but I do not know where. His son Hugh was the only one of the six sons and four daughters to live past the 1880 Census. In the census Hugh (or someone) stated that his father (David) was born in Ireland and his mother (Elisabeth) in Pennsylvania. David was born about 1759, which I calculate from the statement in the church records in Allegheny Co., PA, written by the pastor, that "David Morrow in the 80th year of his life, died December 23, 1839." I am descended from that David Morrow, his son David Morrow, HIS son David Forbes Morrow , son Wallis Delos Morrow and son John Coleman Morrow. My David Morrow appears on the 1800 census, Allegheny Co., PA. and subsequent PA census listings until his death in 1839. There is also a David Morrow listed on an earlier census in another county in PA which is possibly this same man. David could have been elsewhere in America prior to coming to Pennsylvania and settling for good. I plan to look in SC. Any information would be appreciated. Nancy Lovell

He was a vet of the Revolutionary War. His family along with several other Scots/Irish families all relocated about the same time (when the indian territories opened in Alabama & Miss. Sorry to be over excited, but that's a really dangerous assumption. Since these are Southern lines, in particular, records are scarce and many connections, particularly before 1800, are difficult to prove. As the file notes, the file is a collection of research collected from various Morrow researchers, most of whom appear to know what they're talking about *at least for most of their information*. Everyone makes a leap at some point. Speaking of which, it looks like this family has such a leap. Somewhere. Joseph says he was born in Ireland in 1760. Problem: the man who would be his brother, Samuel Morrow, gave his birth in his Rev War papers as 19 Mar 1760 in Baltimore, MD. However, Samuel is tied to his brothers John and David, but not to Joseph, as far as I know. So one or the other may not be David and Agnes' son. On the other hand, Joseph says he enlisted from Chester Co, SC, which is also where Samuel and John enlisted. So that would suggest a relationship is not out of the question. I'll ask one of our participants who has researched this family. Thank you for the concrete info on Joseph - I didn't have any as of yet. I have some census info from the son John you indicated - they ended up in Dallas Co, AL. Amelia

He calls Daniel the father of David who patented 300 acres in Norfolk Co in 1651. He doesn't cite any evidence, and the connection is rejected by those who have researched in the area. David (we'll call him "David I") had a wife named Ann and sons named Alexander, David and John. Ray's book traces several generations of what he calls Daniel's descendants, including the David I branch. There are lots of errors, so I haven't directly copied his work. I know that he goes down at least five generations from David I in some places, as he at that point connects into what might be my family and I have the copies somewhere. As far as the specific family you reference, I have them to some degree in the file I've compiled. According to a family descendant's record, the David you mention maried Agnes White. My record of their family can be found here: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=morrowdna&id=I355 Note the record of their son Samuel - his pension records say he was born in Baltimore, Maryland and his parents lived in Chester Co, SC in 1776. The sons however seem to have scattered, including the 6 I know nothing about. The Worldconnect file for this project does not trace daughters unless they themselves married Morrows. Its purpose is to generate interest and participants in the DNA project. Only male line descendants can participate. I do note daughters in the notes when I find them, however. Regards, Amelia

The project's general goal is to test descendants of Southern Morrow families, particularly those who may be descended from the David Morrow of Norfolk Co, VA profiled in Ray's "Tennessee Cousins." We have found our first match. A descendant of Samuel Morrow, d. 1796 Spartenburg, SC matches a descendant of David Morrow (1762-1843) m. Margaret KELSO. David is a nephew or cousin of Samuel. One unverified manuscript says he is the son of David Morrow and Agnes WHITE. That David was Samuel's 1st cousin. Two other samples from people who thought they descended from Samuel's brothers do not match. Additional descendants are needed to figure out where the connection likely breaks down. If you have relatives descended from Elbridge Gerry Morrow (b. 1813 KY) or Robert Morrow m. Elizabeth SHAW 1779 NC in particular, please consider joining the project. There are also several other participants from different Southern families, so if you have Morrow relatives in Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia, Tennessee, North or South Carolina, Kentucky or Texas, please consider joining as well. Or at least check out the descendants from the David Morrow of Norfolk family at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~morrowdna A quick primer: DNA testing compares Y chromosomes of Morrow-surnamed (i.e. Morrow line is all male) men. An exact or close match means participants are related (within the past several hundred years). No match means participants are not related (within the past several hundred years). Test costs range from $99 (12 marker test, enough to rule you out as related to other participants) to $171 (25 marker test, enough to say you're reasonably related to another participant). I am passing on the message because I know many of you have Morrow roots from KY. I hope this will help someone. KYGenWeb Project is very proud to announce the latest addition to our "Special Collections" of research references for those with Kentucky roots, the Kentucky Vital Records Project. (http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kvrp) What began as a "dream" of 3 of us involved with the KYGenWeb Project and the KYGenWeb Archives, a centralized collection of Kentucky birth, marriage and death records, is now available in the first stages for Kentucky researchers. Currently, the browsable index lists all of the deaths in the KY Death Index (1911-1999). We are in the process of adding digital images and transcriptions of actual death certificates. These digital images and transcriptions will be linked to the browsable index as they are added to the collection. Records for this project will be a combination of researcher-contributed records and a coordinated extraction program so we can get them up as quickly as possible. We will begin adding birth records about 15 April 2004 and marriage records about 1 June 2004. As these records are added, they will also be linked to the index. (NOTE: Birth records will only be added for persons born before the year 1854, unless proof of death is provided. We want to ensure that the privacy and safety of living individuals is not compromised.) The browsable index will be a great help to KY researchers by itself, as you'll be able to search for those "creative" spellings that all of us have been blessed (or cursed) with. Tens of thousands of corrections have already been made to the original index. Corrections from site visitors are encouraged. As corrected or additional information is received on any of the records, it will be incorporated into the index for the benefit of future site visitors. In addition to the browsable index, be sure to check out the site search engine, as it will pick up additional information in the transcriptions (most importantly, parents' and spouse's names, if given). We invite everyone to stop in and check out this newest addition. Our hope is that you'll find some "treasures" here and that you'll then share your collections so that others can find theirs too.
