    3. Hi Vince, I am trying to get some info on a James Madison Morrow. He had a marriage bond in 1833 to marry Frances Hester. They lived in Buncombe Co. until the late 1830's or early 1840's when they moved to So. MO. James later moved to TX (late 1850's or early 60's). Frances had died and he remarried before the move. He lived in several areas of the state and died here (but we do not have where). It is thought that James is son of Rutha (Unkown Maiden Name) and William Morrow. Does any of this info jive with what you have? This is one of my stumbling blocks. 3. Wes, I am trying to locate info on a James Madison Morrow. He married Frances Hester in 1833 in Macon Co., NC (or that is when the marriage bond is for). By the 1840's they were in the Howell Co. area of Southern MO. I am unable to give more info as it is on the PC which is having problems and I am on the laptop. I have several of the Cherokee by Blood books and I am still buying. In volume 3 it talks about a Mr. Lutts trying to claim Cherokee rights on Ursula Weatherford's father Wilkinson Weatherford saying, he was a chief of the Cherokee Nation . This application was denied saying that the Weatherford's were Creek not Cherokee. The only documented Creek Weatherford was Red Eagle his mother was Creek from the Wind Clan.Red Eagle was born in Alabama. He was never in Virginia or the Carolinas. So many family members think the goverment knew Red Eagle was Creek the whole family was. I have not found where anyone claimed rights on Ursula. She is our 6th great grandmother. Ursula was Zillian's great grandmother. Agnes Weatherford, Ursula's sister tried to claim rights ,but was denied saying she was white. So I just don't really know. We claim Cherokee, We were told once by the government we were Cre! ek and then told Agnes she was white. Do you have any information to add on Zillian? I have spoke with Phillip Weaver about a year ago via e-mail. Maybe we three will keep digging and find out more. sue

Philip Weaver, [email protected], "Burleson/Morrow Connection," 10/5/2003, email copy. My Grandma, Minnie Lea Morrow Weaver never would talk about her family much. My Daddy used to tell me that his mother was abandoned as a child along with her younger brother and sister. He said that Grandma's Daddy ran off and her Mother who was Cherokee also left them and went back to the reservation. I was always told that Grandma met my Granddaddy, Doc Martin Weaver, in Franklin County, Alabama near Red Bay. His Daddy Martin Weaver was not only a blacksmith but also a circuit riding Baptist preacher and was down in Franklin County preaching a revival when Grandma and Granddaddy met. The only other thing I was told was that her maiden name was Morrow. A few things I have always known is that Grandma's brother and sister were Oscar Morrow and Hannah Morrow. My Daddy now says that Oscar and Grandma (Minnie) were twins. Hannah was not a younger sister but older, she was born 1/18/1889 and died 8/1973. I know that Grandma died in May of 1972 and Oscar had died years earlier. I have never been able to find Minnie, Oscar and Hannah in a Census together. The first time that I find Grandma is in Cross County, Arkansas in 1930. By this time she had all 9 of her children. Her and Doc Weaver married at a very young age. 8. 3. Wes, I believe this William Morrow to be out of Newberry Co. SC. Page 74, 1790 Newberry SC census. He had land dealings with "my Jay family" in Newberry Co. William appears to migrate to from Newberry Co. to Buncombe Co. ca 1794-6. The family of David Jay follows ca 1803. They all settle in the Cane Creek Valley (living next to one another). Two of David Jay's sons marry two Wm. Morrow daughters. 3. Vince, Thanks for the reply. Do you know where William Morrow came from prior to living in Buncombe? Did he come out of SC by any chance? If so, what part? What you've described in doing with the land deeds is definitely a profitable task. I did that very thing with about 100 deeds in Buncombe county two years ago, but the Morrows weren't on my radar at the time. I found an incredible source of details this way. I suspect that I may find some good stuff on the Robert Morrow, Joseph M. Morrow, and perhaps some other Morrow deeds, since they seem to show up most around my Pattersons, Blacks, and others (as I listed my web site). Thanks again. NC Morrows. The William Morrow (b. before 1755) who is listed on page 180 of the 1800 Census had sons John Morrow (b. ca 1775) and David Morrow (b. ca 1779). William and John migrated out of Buncombe Co. into Tennessee ca 1807-1809. David Morrow stayed in Buncombe a while longer then followed "dad" into Warren Co. TN (ca 1818). David is found on page 145 of the 1810 Buncombe Census. These three individuals all had land on and near Hooper's Creek which is a tributary of Cane Creek. It is near and just west of current day Fletcher, NC. Current day Henderson Co. All of the land deeds for these people discuss "bounding" each others property and they were selling adjacent tracts to one another. I would suggest that (as I did) obtaining copies of all the deed records for these Morrows, reading and understanding where they specifically lived in respect to one another can be a key to sorting them out. You will be amazed at what can show up being discussed in a land transaction. Many of the other Buncombe Co. Morrows are potentially kin. 3. My name is Wes Patterson, and I'm new to this list. For the last decade (plus) I have been researching the Pattersons and Blacks of Buncombe Co NC and surrounding areas. In the last year or two, my research has taken me more into the Morrow family. There were several Morrow families in western NC in the late 1790's and early 1800's, but I haven't been able to tie them all together appropriately, as far as their relationships to each other, and where they came from prior to moving to western NC. One such person was Richard Morrow. In 1800, and the following several years, Richard Morrow acquired hundreds of acres in land grants in Buncombe Co NC. Some of them are listed on my web site at http://wespatterson.com/patt/buncombe.html Other Morrows in that area were Robert Morrow, John M. Morrow, Joseph Maxwell Morrow, James Morrow, David Morrow, and others. We are beginning to think that there was a connection between these Morrows and an Alexander Morrow who was born ca. 1750. Apparently Alexander was the father of the Robert listed above, but how was everyone else tied to them? There was also a Sarah Marr/Morrow who married a James Patterson in Buncombe in 1810. Richard Morrow sold 100 acres of land to my gggg-gf, John Patterson, on 8/02/1802. I am finding more and more links between these Pattersons, and Blacks, and Morrows (aka Marr). These Blacks and Pattersons came from Pendleton District, SC in the 1790's, and prior to that were in York Co, SC. I would certainly appreciate any help identifying these Morrows of Buncombe, and what happened to them. Thanks.
