Author: pmarkowicz66 Surnames: Morrissey; Mary Morrissey Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrissey/31.70.80.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Sorry for the delay. Life got busy and this interest took a backseat for a while. But my sister and I picked it up again recently. Here are some of the notes compiled recently on 'our Morrissey's': 1880 - US Federal Census - Bridgit Morrisey (40/1840) married to James Morrisey (45/1835). Her occupation listed as house keeper and his as farm laborer. No street address is listed on the census sheet anywhere. No date of emigration is listed on census form though James' place of birth is recorded as Ireland, same as his parents though they are not named. Bridgit also from Ireland. Children listed: Julia A., 19 a dressmaker; Edward 17 a student; Cassie T. 14 (Catherine?)and a student. James 9 and a student; Annie 6 and a student; Thomas J.3; Mary, 10mo. at home. The only indication of location is Milton/Norfolk County/MA. 1900 - US Federal Census(12th) - James Morrissey (dob 07/1828) is 71 and married to Bridget (dob 09/1841) who is 58. James has been here (Ireland) for 56 years (1844)and is naturalized. Bridget has been here (Ireland) 55 years(1845) They have been married 39 years ( ~1861) and have 8 surviving children out of 8.(Later documents suggest 10) Address is Russell St.,fully owned. Also on the census: Julia A., 38(04/1862)dressmaker; Edward L.. 36(04/1864); Annie J., 25 (12/1874) dressmaker; Thomas J., is 23(03/1877)dentist; Mary E.,20( 08/1879) a teacher; Alice V., 15(09/1884) is in school. I have other notations, but I suspect there might be enough here to be of some help. I have not yet found which port of entry; where they were married or death/burial info. Will keep looking and of course I'm grateful for any new info folks may have Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
