    1. Re: [MORRISSEY] Morrissey in Tipperary
    2. Hi Drey, My Morrissey ancestors settled in Rockland, Brown, WI near Green Bay. I don't think that we are related to the Morrisseys in Maple Grove, but it could be possible. Recently, the following Morrissey family of Torah, Parish of Clonoulty was located. I believe that they are my ancestors. Parents - Patrick Morrissey of Rossmore married Mgt. Ryan of Rossmore on 10 Feb. 1807 in Clonoulty. (witnesses - Darby Morrissey & Tim Ryan) Baptismal information concerning their children - 11 Sept. 1809 Ellen (sponsors - Darby Ryan & Ellen Byrne) 10 Dec. 1811 JO (sponsors - Roger Dwyer & Alley Fahy) 15 July 1814 Daniel (his mother is listed as Mary Ryan) (sponsors - Patrick Ryan & Winifred Ryan) 1 Nov. 1816 Winifred (sponsors - Andy Trassy & Cate Ryan) 25 Oct. 1819 Denis (sponsor - Catherine Ryan) *5 June 1825 Margaret (sponsors - Tim Dwyer & Mary Ryan) (source- Bru Boru Cultural Centre) Denis, & Margaret Morrissey went to New York around 1850 and within a few years proceeded to the Green Bay area in Wisconsin. Denis married Catherine Dwyer who was also from the parish of Clonoulty in Brown County, WI. Margaret married Maurice Ryan of Glenough Lower, Parish of Clonoulty, Tipperary in New York State ca 1850. Ellen settled in WI too. She married Francis Vertzius in Brown County, WI I believe that Winifred and Daniel went to Australia a couple of years before the Famine. A Winifred Morrissey married Thomas Ryan on May 8, 1849 in St. Mary's Church in Sydney, NSW. (Witnesses - Michael Ryan & Johannah Hogan) Their son, Patrick Ryan, was born 13 Feb. 1850 and baptised 21 Feb. 1850 in St. James, County of Cumberland. (sponsors - Daniel Morricy and Johana Morricy). The Thomas Ryan family eventually moved to California and later Nevada. I don't know what happened to JO Morrissey. It's uncertain what JO stood for and if JO was a male or female. It's possible that she was the sponsor for the baby born in Australia. There was a Michael Morrissey that was definitely connected to this Morrissey family based on the Griffith Valuation. I checked and he isn't a brother of the children listed above. He could be a cousin or uncle. I don't know what happened to Michael. Do you see any connections between your family and mine? They really lived in fairly close proximity. Sincerely, Kris
