Surnames: Morrissey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi1.2ACEB/351 Message Board Post: Seeking help to trace a line on John Morrissey, sentenced to 4 years “penal servitude” in May 1858 at his Court Martial in Barbados on 21 May 1858. Enlisted (49th Foot) 28 October 1848 at Templemore, Tipperary, age 18. No further trace so far although I believe it was the custom at that time for the prisoner to be handed over to the civil authority as he was also discharged from the Army on sentencing. This was the same British regiment in which my gr.grandfather William Morrissey served, at the same time- - maybe related, but no evidence.
