My Morrissey line goes back to the Late 1700s in Caher, Tipperary. Later generations lived in Ballyfowloo and Cashel areas. Current descendants supposedly live in Mayfiels. Connected to my Dohney clan. Bill Grimes Round Rock, Texas

I am trying to find any and all information on John Morrissey who married Catherine Baxter. The information I have is sketchy but we believe he was born in Ireland and was the first of our ancestors that immigrated to Canada. We think he must have ended up in New Brunswick as what information we have on their children show them being born in St. John New Brunswick. We believe he was born in or right around 1814 and died in December of 1894. I have no idea where Catherine came from or any birth or death dates. Family information shows three children, Edmund A., Thomas (born 11/3/1861), and James Jeremiah (born 12/4/1868). What little record I've been able to find online also show a son by the name of John. Descendants of these Morrissey's left Canada and settled in central MA. Any and all leads are welcomed!

I am trying this again. My first try on 15 June received three responses. I have been getting bounces from someone who uses a mail forwarding service and is over their quota.. Unfortunately their real address is not provided. This is getting very frustrating. Normally they are removed automatically after four bounces when the address is known. I receive all bounced mail including the spam. If everyone sent me a email I should be able to figure out who it is. I believe it might be from the UK and from the regular list not the Digest. I have two UK addresses and one bigfoot address I am looking at that might be the problem. Hi, I have just joined this list. I am trying to trace my Morrissey ancestors. All we know is the James and Catherine (nee O'Donnell) came to Victoria, Australia in 1853 and that their first child Michael was born in Limerick. It is believed that James and Catherine married in Limerick. We have a copy of a marriage certificate for James Morrissey and Catherine McDonald, 27th November 1851 at St Mary's, Limerick. The witnesses were John Ryan and Bridget Ryan and Rev. Brendan Connellan, we are unsure if this is them or not. Can anyone shed any light on this for me. Regards, Lucille (Australia)

Meanwhile, I still maintain www.morrisseyfamilyhistory.com, which should be updated this summer. Many thanks, Stephen Morrissey
My grandmother ( Mary Boyle, daughter of Bridget Morrissey) and her twin sister & 2 brothers emigrated to Yonkers NY. One brother returned to Ireland. There may be a long Island connection (descended from Patrick Morrissey)... a woman there remembers her mom speaking of a cousin named Mrs. Fitzgerald, the name of my grandmother's twin sister. I also was told we were related to Dr. Morrissey of Yonkers. No concrete proof, but than Bridget Morrissey and Patrick Morrissey both had fathers named Thomas. The Long Island branch descended from Patrick Morrissey came from the Modeligo Cappoquin area of Waterford.

There is a wonderful genealogy library at the Bennington Museum, at which you can a lot of help on your Bennington Co. families. My 2ggf was Michael Morrissey, son of Bridget and __?__ Morrissey. He came to the US about 1853, and he and his wife Susan (nee Kierce) had the following offspring : Michael, Margaret, John (my ggf, who lived in Rutland as an adult), Martin, and Mortimer, a.k.a. Murt. These Morrisseys are in several places in the family tree intermarried with Cullinans, also from Co. Waterford.
