    1. [MORRISSEY] Morrissey family from Wexford
    2. Jeanne and John Hubbard
    3. My Morrissey (Morrisey) family came from New Ross, County Wexford, according to information on naturalization documents and death notices. James Morrissey (born c. 1801) Spouse: Catherine Doyle (born c. 1814) Children: Mary (still trying to find out what happened to her) (born c. 1834) Catherine (married Patrick Quinlan and my great grandmother) (b. 1836) James (b. 1839) Michael (b.1841) John (b. 1844) Martin (b.1848) Patrick (still trying to find out what happened to this child also) Edward (born in Illinois c. 1855) The entire family appears on immigration records arriving in New Orleans aboard the Miltiades on 23 April 1850. This is the only record that includes Pat, age 3. Interestingly, the family name is spelled Morrisey for some and Morisy for others. The next record is in the 1850 census where the family name is spelled Marsey (think how they would have pronouced Morrisey with an Irish accent). The are living in Pike County, Indiana and James is working as a canaler. This is the last entry I have found for daughter Mary (did she marry or die?) and young Pat is not on this census record (did he die?). By 1860, the family is living in Pulaski County, Indiana and the name is spelled Morsee. Catherine is married, but also living in Pulaski county. Michael was in the Civil War and I have his pension file. I cannot find the family (yet) in the 1870 census. >From 1880 on, the family is living in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana and remained there for the rest of their lives. I have death dates, etc. on all the family. Only Michael and Martin married late in life and neither had children. To my knowledge, only daughter Catherine and Patrick Quinlan had children and moved on to Missouri. None of the male Morrisey members of the family had children that I can find.

He was born between 1825 and 1833, married Sarah Sweeney at Templemore 1850. He served in the British Army from 1846 to 1869. On his discharge the family moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Over part of that period there was a John Morrissey in the Regiment (court martialed and discharged 1858), also born Templemore, but I don't know if they were related. William's father may have been named Walter, but I don't know any more, so information on him would be very interesting. Possible connections to the Mackie family.

I am hoping to someday obtain an obituary and/or death record for Edward which may answer my questions. I need his exact date of death, I only have the year. When was your Thomas born?

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Hi1.2ACEB/315.1 Message Board Post: Hello, I live in Victoria and my ancestor was James Morrissey born circa 1830 in Ireland. He and his wife Catherine (nee O'Donnell) and son Michael came out to Australia in 1852 on board The New Zealander. We have been unable to find out where James and Catherine were born but believe they may have married in Limerick as their son Michael was born there. It is believed that James' father was Michael as well. You say thay your Michael had 14 siblings and wonder if one may have been James born around that time. Our James had 11 children, including a Timothy, Michael, John, James, Edward and Francis. Do any of these names come up in your tree. All the boys and girls except for Michael were born in Victoria. Hope to hear from you. Kind regards, Lucille
