Kris, Is your Daniel the same as the one who went to Australia in 1841 aboard the Lady Kennaway? His parents were listed as Patrink and Margaret Morrisey of Cashel, Co., Tipperary. I don't know where Clonoulty is in relation to Cashel. Kris, You can view the results of other DNA Surname projects. for YSearch, go to: http://www.ysearch.org/ this is a service from Family Tree DNA that anyone can enter their test results into and anyone can search. It includes results from the following sites, as well as others. For Relative Genetics, go to: http://www.relativegenetics.com/relativegenetics/index.jsp Enter the surname you want to search. Currently, they have no Morrisseys, but they may in the future. For Sorenson Molecular Genealogical Foundation, go to: smgf.org Click on the Y-Database and in the next screen click on "Search the Y-Database" for FamilyTreeDNA, go to: www.familytreedna.com Click on Surname projects, click on M under Y-DNA surname projects. They do not currently have a Morrissey DNA project, but they may soon. My father is listed under the Morrison project as our family occasionally used that name. They have gotten 146 members is about a year and a half. Tim, You certainly are. There are several options: 1) FamilyTreeDNA. My father has done a DNA test through them through the Morrison surname project, but a Morrissey DNA project could be started there. The cost depends on the number of markers you select. For more information, go to familytreedna.com 2) Relative Genetics. This testing site is somewhat cheaper, and select different markers. Your results would still be comparable to other results from other companies, For more information go to: relativegenetics.com 3) Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. They are a free testing company, but they do not send you the results. However, they do have a searchable database so your results could be compared to other Morrisseys. For more information, go to smgf.org. Let me know if you have any questions. It's great that there is a Morrissey DNA project! My gr.gr.grandmother was Margaret Morrissey of Toragh, Parish of Clonoulty, Tipperary. Her father's name was Patrick Morrissey. If there are any surviving male Morrissey descendants from this family, I am not aware of them. There were at least 2 brothers, Denis and Daniel. Denis has no surviving descendants and Daniel went to Australia in the 1840s. Nothing else is known about Daniel. While we couldn't contribute to the project, unfortunately. would be very interested in seeing the results. Would this be possible? Sincerely, Kris (Monigal) Kurtz

I come from MORRISSEY traced back to 1800'ish in the Woodstown area of County Waterford. Am I DNAvailable? Slainte, Tim --
Bill, Unfrotunately, this test can only be taken by male descendants with the surname of Morrissey. You would have to trace the male descendants of one of her brothers to take the test. Catherine McNulty Morrissey (Nee from family "bible")born c1841 in Ire. Parents: Mr & Mrs. McNulty from Ireland, siblings unknown. Immigrtation must be between 1841 and 1864. Her husband John Morrissey (MANY varriations born New York c1832. Marriage details unknown. parents and siblings unknown. 1870 & 1880 census shows John's occupation is grocer. Daughter, Mary Margaret, b in New Orleans c1864, and son Thomas E. in c1866 (1870 and 1880 census). "Margaret" later marries Patrik Cohen (many name variations) c1883 in Maplegrove. They have 9 known children. One of which is my Great Grandfather. Information on Cohen children is available. Between 1866 and 1868 there seems to be a move from LA to WI - Maplegrove in Manitowoc county. Date and reason unknown. 1870 census shows a son William born in Wisconsin, c1868, not shown on 1880 census. Ellen listed as daughter born in Wisconsin (I do not believe they (John & Catherine) were here at this time in history) c 1856. 1880 census shows Catherine is no longer married to John, but he has a wife named Mary born c1854, (compared to Catherine c 1841). Catherine quite possibly died in Maplegrove between 1870 and 1880 ( about 30-40 years old). Her husband died 1884 and is burried in St Patrick's cemetery in Maplegrove, but there is no sign of Catherine.
Catherine McNulty Morrissey (maiden name is not proven but from our family "bible") is born c1841 (1870 census-Maplegrove WI) born in Ireland. Parents: Mr & Mrs. McNulty are from Ireland, and siblings unknown. Immigration is unknown and hard to find due to spelling of Catharine and unknown names of parents. Immigrtation must be between 1841 and 1864. Her husband John Morrissey (MANY varriations on name spelling found) was born in New York c. 1832. Marriage date and place is unknown. His parents and siblings are unknown. No other husbands or military service for Catherine is known. 1870 and 1880 census shows John's occupation is grocer. She has a daughter, Mary Margaret, in New Orleans c1864, and a son Thomas E. in 1866 (1870 and 1880 census). "Margaret" later marries Patrik Cohen (many name variations) about 1883 in Maplegrove. They have 9 known children. One of which is my Great Grandfather. Information on Cohen children is available. Between 1866 and 1868 there seems to be a move from Louisana to Wisconsin - Maplegrove in Manitowoc county. Date and reason unknown. 1870 census shows a son William born in Wisconsin, c1868, not shown on 1880 census. No more information is available. 1880 census shows 2 strange events - Catherine is no longer married to John, but he has a wife named Mary born c1854, (compared to Catherine c 1841) and there is an Ellen listed as daughter born in Wisconsin (I do not believe they (John & Catherine) were here at this time in history) c 1856. *** Would John have married Mary and taken her sister-2 years younger, as his daughter? Catherine quite possibly died in Maplegrove between 1870 and 1880 ( about 30-40 years old). Her husband died 1884 and is burried in St Patrick's cemetery in Maplegrove, but there is no sign of Catherine - where could she be?
