Mr. Richard MORRISSEY has asked me to convey his "one time" offer of a pedigree of the DELANO and POWER surnames, covering the 16th to the 13th centuries. Both of these surnames are connected to the MORRISSEY line. He also requests any family reunion dues or other information on both the DELANO and POWER surnames. Mr. Morrissey is not a computer user. Oooops. Wasnt there somebody looking for folks from Wisconsin. I have an alter ego, WayBack Morrisseys, who were in Chippewa Falls WI. Joseph Morrissey was born about 1855, probably in New Ireland. He married Bridget Thornton , daughter of John Thornton and Bridget Heffernan, and a native of Tipperary, Ireland on Oct 27 1885. Their wedding took place in Notre Dame Church , Chippewa Falls, Winsconsin. The Morrisseys raised four children in Winsconsin- Amelia, Bridget, John and Thomas. Joseph died on July 23, 1923 in St Josephs Hospital, Chippewa Falls and was buried in Notre Dame Cemetery . His wife died on June 28, 1953 in St Paul Minnesota and was buried with her husband. Hope this helps somebody. Slainte, Tim --
Mr. Sage: I would also love a copy. My mailing address is listed below. Thank you so much. Jeanne M. Keefe Visual Resources Librarian Architecture Library, Greene 306 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 110 8th Street Troy, NY 12180 518-276-2727
I've lost the snail mail address to get a copy of the Morrissey files. Is it possible to get one sent to me? I will be willing to pay for postage and copies. Thank you ever so much. Our Morrissey came to New Orleans around 1849-1850. His name was Michael. He joined the confederate army in Tennessee and later moved to Iowa to have his family. He ended up seperated from his wife and went to live with his sister in Prescott, Wisconsin. That is where he is buried. Re William Grimes' query about Tipperary my great-grandfather William Morrissey was from Templemore, Tipperary, although I cannot find any birth record. The biggest grouping of Morrisseys from the Norman French line seems to be around Waterford. My gg finally settled in Newcastle on Tyne, England after long service in the British Army. I'm looking for connections to John Morrissey in the same Regiment, b. 1830, enlisted 1848 at Templemore, discharged for mutiny and sentenced to 4 years "penal servitude" in 1858 on the island of Barbados. No trace thereafter. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: 30 March 2007 08:01 To: [email protected] Subject: MORRISSEY Digest, Vol 2, Issue 26 Today's Topics: 1. I suspect some of the reason is not every one could read or write when then came to the USA in 1850. (Of course, that is another mystery as I have found them on a ship manifest via New Orleans in 1850 with some members of the family listed Morrisy, some Morisy, etc., but on the 1900 census some give the arrival date as 1846 and some 1850. The two years also appear on various naturalization records and in a civil war pension file. Did some members of the family come in 1846 and then return to Ireland to come again in 1850 with the entire family? Or is it simply that some of the dates are wrong?) In the 1850 census the family is listed as Marsey (imagine how the name would be said with the Irish accent). In 1860 the family is Morsee. After that is is always either Morrissey or Morrisey. Unfortunately (as far as current spelling goes) the only member of the family to marry AND have children was my Great Grandmother, Catherine Morrissey, so there are no living members with the name Morrissey.
