Diane, Those who are eligible for the Y DNA test are males in an unbroken line from a Morrissey ancestor. In your husband's case you would need to find a male descendant of a brother of his great-grandmother. Bill, So far no one has taken me up on my offer. If no one does, I may expand the offer even further, but I will have to see how the funds hold out. You can get a free test done at www.smgf.org They will not send you your results, but they will post the results anonymously on their website after 6 months to 1 year. I can help you figure out what the results are once they are posted. But we are not related. If you are interest in getting your DNA tested join a project. If you are male Morrissey join this project. I got the 67 markers done. Probably over kill. You could do 37, 25 or 12 markers. If you sign up with a project, the price is a little lower. I did not start this project, another Mike Morrissey did. My DNA is the first one with James Morrissey b.c. 1800 County Waterford. Everyone, Another person has joined the Morrissey DNA surname project at Family Tree DNA. Currently, only one result has been posted. You can see it at: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Morrissey/ You do not need to have your DNA testing done at Family Tree DNA to participate in the project, which I am the adminstrator for. If you have your testing done at another firm, you can send me the results with the appropriate release forms (which I will provide) and we can include your results in the project. If you are interested in other options, feel free to email me off list. If you are interested in what DNA testing can provide, looking at results from other surname projects can be informatiive. A good one is the Morrison surname DNA project at: http://home.mindspring.com/~efholcombe/ particularly the results and discussion pages. Feel free to email me directly as well. Mike Morrissey
