    1. [MORRISSEY] Denis Morrissey, Julia Maloney - Tipperary to Wilkes-Barre, PA
    2. Greetings everyone...I'm Joy and I'm new here... I'm researching Denis Morrissey from Co. Tipperary whose son, Denis J. Morrissey, emigrated to the coal mining region of SE PA. Denis J. was born Nov. 2, 1842 in Co. Tipperary, Ireland and emigrated to PA in November 1865 at 23 years old. Could his father, Denis Morrissey, be the son of Patrick Morrissey and Margaret Ryan of Rossmore? I estimate he was born about 1820, which would fit the age of Patrick and Margaret's son Denis. Thanks for any help you can provide... Best wishes... Joy Coll **************Cooking Dinner For Two? Sign Up & Get Immediate Member-Only Savings. Author: RobertLendrum Surnames: Morrissey Lendrum Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrissey/525/mb.ashx Message Board Post: She states in a New York Emigrant Savings Bank entry that she was born in 'Tip' Ireland. so I am hoping she was referring to Tipperary Co. Ireland. She seems to swap from a birth year of 1841 to 1842 depending what document I see her name on. I also gleamed from the bank record that they immigrated in 1854 on the ship Belle Wood from Liverpool. She married Robert James Lendrum who was born in 1842 in Pembrook Dock Wales, UK. I think I am finely getting all of my facts strait on this one. But, I am hoping some one on this forum can validate these facts and link her to her parents. Author: leannecm1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrissey/321.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Pat, thankyou for replying to my thread. As you can see I posted this message in 2005 so was very suprised when I received an email tellng me there was a reply! I have been looking at my family history for about five years now, and I have gathered quite a bit of information on the Morrissey's. There is quite a lot of information on the website Scotlandspeople about them. I have a copy of the marraige certificate of john morrissey to ann walsh in 1868, this took place in the chapel of castledermot. I have then been given a list of siblings for your patrick and my michael, there were ten in all, however some sadly died in childhood. Your grandfather patrick married bridget hughes on 1st january 1908 in St Francis Xaviers, carfin, and I have subsequently uncovered many other records of births marriages and deaths of this family. You are the first descendant of patrick morrissey that I have had any contact with. My grandfather Michael was also in carfin for a while and he married and had some children there before returning to Castledermot. He was a miner who helped in the building of the carfin grotto, and we visited there for the first time just a few months ago. I have lots more specific information and I would be happy to share it with you if you would be interested. I do not however have any information on the Walsh line so any information you are able to share would be very gratefully received! I look forward to hearing from you again, my email address is [email protected] Regards, Leanne. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: PatMorrissey08 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrissey/321.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Leanne, your grandfather's brother (Patrick)was my grandfather. So we share great grandparents. I have a scrap of paper which identifies Patrick Morrissey's (Oul' Paddy Morrissey) mother as Anne Walsh. Paddy fought for the British army in WWI and on his return to Castledermot was invited to leave Ireland by the IRA. He ended up in Carfin, Lanarkshire married to Bridget (whose surname escapes me). Apparently someone on the Walsh side has done some research. I'll try to get back to you. Cheers.
