Author: marjose Surnames: Morrissey, Lindsay, Graham Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrissey/581/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for any information on Thomas Morrissey and Margaret Lindsay (or similar) from Galway. Their dau Bridget arrived in Victoria, Australia in 1850 on board the ship "Reliance". I have her parents' names from her marriage to Joseph Graham in 1857 in Ballarat, Victoria but her mother's maiden name is very difficult to decipher. Her father Thomas is stated to be a farmer from Galway. If Bridget was born about 1832, her parents may have been born between 1790-1810. There are no records in Galway to match her baptism or her parent's marriage. There are a few records of various Thomas Morrisseys in the Griffith's Valuation and one in the Applotment Book but I would love to find a definite link. Please let me know if you have these same names in your ancestry somewhere. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: familysanner71 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.morrissey/326.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: James was my great grandfather. I'm happy to share what I know, but there are the surnames and given names are COMMON. James married Elizabeth Keenan. His dad was Michael and mom was Catherine King. Elizabeth's parents were James and Bridget. My mom (not a Morrissey) tells me that James had to leave Ireland because he was about to be hanged for treason against the British. His friends went to the jail and told the guards that his mother had died. Could he at least go to the funeral? They put him on a ship. Sounds a little far fetched. But there are a lot of records of James Morrissey from Abbeyleix in Ireland spending a lot of time in Queen's County prison. James and his family are buried at Mt Calvary Cemetary in Richmond. There website is helpful. I don't have a lot of info on his parents yet. I don't even know if they made it to the US. I does appear that James and Elizabeth met and married in Missouri. How they got there and how they got to Virginia ???? The names and marriage dates match. Please let me know if you track anything down...
