    3. Here is an article that I found in the Prospect-News Newspaper. Maybe it will be of some help to others. I am now going to my corner and try to behave after the error I made on the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Beck This article is taken form the Prospect-News Newspaper, November, 17, 2004, from a special edition titled, " MOVING FORWARD WHILE REMEMBERING THE PAST New Doniphan Cemetery Established- In the late 19th century, Doniphan's original cemetery located south of the Ripley County Courthouse had no more lots available to bury the deceased. No records had been kept of people who had been buried in the cemetery; it contained many unmarked graves. The Doniphan Cemetery became full during the 1890's. The city established a new cemetery north of town, which they opened at the beginning of 1897 and called it Oak Ridge. Many people moved their kin from the old Doniphan Cemetery to the new Oak Ridge Cemetery. This answers the question as to 'why' some graves are marked with the date of death before the Oak Ridge Cemetery was established. Now, 107 years later the Oak Ridge Cemetery is full and the City of Doniphan has bought land on Y Highway to establish a new cemetery.
