I have never in my history on this list, admonished anyone. Today is the day. You guys are the best group anyone could ever want to work with. The volunteers make it great and a lot easier on me. Not to mention that we would not have the online resources that we do if it wasn't for their help. And not just the volunteers but any of you who step up the plate and answer questions posted by others. You dont know how much it means to me. I feel that we are family here and that's what genealogy is all about. But our volunteers are VERY important to me and when it comes to them, the term "list mom" comes into play quite strongly. So Mom here wants to remind her "/children/" that you _must_ be very respectful to our volunteers. I ask that you not overload them by asking for general and multiple surname lookups. They are not here to do your research for you. They are here to "help" you out. So please dont overload them with these kinds of requests. If this applies to you, please dont be offended. It's just a reminder that our volunteers often do lookups for many many groups and sites. We are not the only ones that they serve. Often a request like this is done, due to lack of knowledge. So let me give you a sample of what I mean: I get a lookup from someone who is usually new to the site and has yet to acquire their own reference material. So they post a request for assistance. That is what we are here for. But in most instances a request for a lookup on "everything you can find on Jones" is NOT acceptable. Can you imagine the time it would take for me to look up and type out "everything I could find on the surname Jones"? Too many requests like this and our volunteers would quit! And we cant afford to loose any of them. Please be specific in your requests. What do you want, specifically? A more appropriate request would be. " I am looking for information on the surname Jones. I am a decendant of Robert Jones and we suspect he may have moved to Ripley Co due to census records we have found. I am just starting my research on this family group and I need to place his family specifically in Ripley Co. Can you look at the land records and see if he is listed there"? Then when you get a reply to this, based on what was found, you can ask another "specific" question on this line. Your volunteer has not wasted their time and you may end up with more leads to follow and more specific path to take. Then you can post another lookup request based on the info that was found or the lack of info. Jackie - "List Mom"
