I have just came into posession of this lengthy document that was published in 1894. It contains a general history, a brief history of each county, and numerous biographical sketches of prominent citizens in each county. Ripley is included in this document as are many other counties in the Southern MO and Northern AR region. There are also a BUNCH of biographical sketches on many folks that lived in the region. If you have any relatives who lived in Ripley or surrounding counties during the time from when the County was founded til around 1890 or so they may be listed in here. Becky, I appreciate it very much! Scanned copies would work great. Thanks for taking the time to go out there and shoot some pics for me and remembering me. :-) For that matter, everyone on this list has been so nice to help out not just me but others who post requests on here as well. How about posting the pictures that you received on the Ripley County site. I would love to see them as well as probably a lot of other people. Thank you so much for making them available. If any one out there comes across any information on the Boshears, Franklin's or Arnold's I would Love to hear from you. The Boshears are a very colorful group. I'm sure there must be plenty of information on the boys, since a least one of them spent a considerable amount of time in Jefferson City, State paid. Thanks for any help. BJ
First of all - I want to thank you - Debbie - for trying to find out the information I asked you about the Hauk/Griffin family. I will now check St. Louis marriage records. I've been having e-mail problems the last couple days, just now got it fixed (so it took me a bit of time to get back to you with my thanks) Second: I have inherited a bunch of pictures that my grandmother took during the time frame of 1913-1920 or so. Not all of them are identified. I send an earlier e-mail about Edna & Ada. I also have a picture of the Ripley County Courthouse which is identified as being from 1919,. so if anyone wants that one, please let me know. Most of the pictures are of my grandmother and some of her friends - not all are identified. Some of the pictures are taken around what I assume is the Current River. There is also a photo of a building, which could be either a church or a school - and it is labeled "West Point - 1918". It would also be "West Dount" . Can someone out there identify it for me?
I would love to have a copy of the photo since my Mom's family lived most of their lives in Ripley County and most certainly would have had some knowledge of these people. Thank you for making this generous offer. I am always interested in old photos of MO especially Doniphan, because so many of my family still live in that area. Judy Neu Springwater, NY
Hi Jackie- Of course I would love to help with whatever I can. Everyone has been so helpful for me it is the least I can do. Let me know how. I am fairly good with the pc, I just have never gotten into web pages or linking. (but if you point me in the right direction I am sure that I can learn). I am in Michigan, so I am thinking the footwork that you are looking for is out, but my fingers are at your disposal if I can help. Dawn PS. I quick "Thank You", to Debbie for the digging and scanning she did for me this past weekend. The things she found led me to some amazing finds, and new paths to follow !
Jo, I checked the newspaper for 2 months before and 1 month after and did not find any reference - but remember, I did it kind of fast. I did find some info on Margaret: September 5, 1929 Gatewood Mrs. Fannie Hays, who came Friday for a visit with Mrs. J. B. Dodd, before the latter left for her home in Oklahoma, returned to her home in De Soto Monday. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Dodd and daughter, Neva, left Monday morning for their home in Blackwell, Okla., after a visit here with Mr. Dodd's mother, Mrs. M. F. Dodd, who is suffering with a broken hip.. John Dodd and family of Poplar Bluff visited Mrs. M. F. Dodd Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Woodring of Poplar Bluff were here to see Mrs. M. F. Dodd Friday. September 12, 1929 Gatewood News Miss Faye Hensley, of Many Springs, returned to her home Tuesday. She had been staying here with Mrs. M. F. Dodd. Ponder News Mrs. M. F. Dodd who died in Gatewood on Thursday of last week, was buried in Ponder on Friday. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W. R. Holland. -----Original Message----- From: jo harris [mailto:bunnyjo35@charter.net] Sent: Wednesday, May 25, 2005 11:17 AM To: MORIPLEY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Ripley Requests Hi Debbie I have a request if you can fit into your schedule. I will be getting all the tombstone photos to you as soon as I get them back. Also if anyone is interested, I will be more than happy to email them photos of the stones as well. I don't have a list as of yet of al the stones that I took pics of. To be truthful, I can't remember the names on all the stones that I took the photos of. I do know that as soon as I got to the cemeteries I went hog wild and went to taking photos. ALSO: Debbie Horine, I DO believe you owe me a thank you for wading through ALL those blackberry briars, seed ticks and chiggers and don't let us forget the Water Mouth Copper Moccasin snakes, and the riding in the back of the truck while YOU and Uncle Lynndal rode in the front of the truck, just to get you a old rock from the Shawler family homestead chimney. As I recall, I got TWO rocks, while there. And when I got home, I had ZERO rocks :-)))) Becky Pyland Davis Tanimara wrote: > There have been multiple discussions both on list and off about cemetery > locations.
