Thanks, but these are "other" Jesse Horns. The Jesse married to Hetty Ann Davis, is I THINK a son of Frederick Horn who was a son of my ggg-grandfather Jesse. The Jesse on the 1860 Census is a son of my ggg-grandfather. But thanks for trying. A new cemetery transcription has been added to the Ripley Co site. Known by three names, New Union, Oxly, and Shahan. This transcription was submitted to the US GenWeb site by Don Clark. Thank you Don! Jackie Wood -- "At the birth of the Sun, and his brother the Moon, their Mother died. So the Sun gave to the earth her body from which was to spring all life, And he drew forth from her breast the stars and he threw them into the night sky to remind him of her soul." The Bellview Cemetery i was referring to is off 21 hwy and k hwy. Richard Jonas
I have added a page to the Military link which contains basic info on the citizens of Ripley during the Civil War and the records kept by the State Union Provost Marshal. There were only a few from Ripley Co during this period. Go to the home page, see link below in my signature. Click on Military, Civil War, then the Provost Marshal's link. Jackie -- "At the birth of the Sun, and his brother the Moon, their Mother died. So the Sun gave to the earth her body from which was to spring all life, And he drew forth from her breast the stars and he threw them into the night sky to remind him of her soul." The main Cemetery page has been updated to note this confusion over Bellview Cem. I also added a note of explaination to the Amity Cemetery page. Bellview Cemetery has not been enumerated yet so I'll make note there when it is. Jackie -- "At the birth of the Sun, and his brother the Moon, their Mother died. So the Sun gave to the earth her body from which was to spring all life, And he drew forth from her breast the stars and he threw them into the night sky to remind him of her soul." Owner/Breeder Tanimara Great Pyrenees <http://www.geocities.com/tanimara_2000/> CC: Ripley Co MO GenWeb <http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Emoripley/> CC: Harringtongen <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/harringtongen/> - a genealogy site for Harringtons and collateral lines.
I see the confusion there Margaret. The cemetery book by Thelma McManus gives a different discription of Amity. It states: " Formerly located at the Bethany Church and also known unofficially as "Ponder Family Cemetery." Take old 142 east about 2.9 miles - cemetery is behind the Amity Baptist Church in Sec 20, T23N, R3E. Still in use and fairly well kept. Numerous unmarked graves. Listed May 1973, revised Oct 1975 with the assistance from E F Moore, Madison, Wisc. So there is a mistake somewhere or we have two cemeteries named Bellview. The one north of Doniphan is near the Bellview Church. USGI shows no Bellview Cemetery listed in the county so it's a historical name which ever one it is. However it does show a Bellview church and school and locates it at the one north of Doniphan off K. I will make a note on the page for Amity Cemetery about this confusion for future researchers. I am so glad you brought this to my attention. I appreciate all the response on the Bellview cemetery, i visited the cemetery in 2001 and took pictures of my relatives, as i remember it was Bellview at that time, the obituaries i have for my relatives, Herschel and Lena Crook who died in 2001 say they are buried in Bellview cemetery. I failed to find in on the Ripley County cemetery list. Richard Jonas
I dont believe they are Margaret. My cemetery book says the old name for Amity is The old Ponder Cem. The location it gives for Amity does not fit with what I have on Bellview either. It is north of Doniphan off of Highway K. Jackie Mdslot5787@aol.com wrote: >Are we saying Bellview and Amity are not one and the same.... > >Margaret D.
