    3. Hello, I have a great aunt that married a Lowery and there was a man by the name of Hiram Lowery buried in the Murrell Cemetery that I have not been able to find a connection for. Isabella Johnson married William Lowery July 11 1891 in Butler Co MO. I believe she died about 1910 and he remarried. I don't know but believe they had at least one child named James Lowery born about 1906. I don't know what happened to any of them. I would like to see if there are any descendents. Looking forward to hearing form any one out there that might know more about this family. 2. <PRE>Jo I live in Memphis, TN. I have only visited the Union and Johnston Chapel cemeteries. I don't remember seeing any Murphy head stones. I would have noticed any Murphy head stones because I married a Murphy. I know none of my wife's relatives lived in that area. I never lived in that area eather.

    3. Renee: Thank you for the response. However, I obviously did not make a copy of my note to you - it must have been one of the ones on the rootsweb page. Was this for Giles, Prater or Jackson? We are not having a lot of luck finding anything on the Giles and very little on Prater. Any information you have about good places to research in those counties would be appreciated. We know Elvira Giles lived in Ripley County and Butler County but nothing on her family. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZNB.2ACI/942.1 Message Board Post: The Colley family is fictitious. There was no family by that name living in Ripley County at the start of the Civil War. The location given for the family is in the Beaverdam area of northeast Ripley County near the Butler County line on the Little Black river. Great poetic license is taken with the geography in this book . It is even more fictional in regard to local history. There is no record of a massacre of civilians, men, women and children by Federal troops at Pulliam's farm on Christmas Day, 1863. That skirmish freed 100 Union prisoners while 35 Confederates were killed. There were over 400 eyewitnesses, yet not one reported a massacre. It is wrong to put all the blame on the Missouri State Militia for the depradations. It can be argued that the other side was as bad if not worse and worse even were the bushwhackers. Readers should set aside the history and geography and concentrate on the romance the book offers. Ray Burson, Ripley County Historical Society
