    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XNB.2ACI/442 Message Board Post: The following was transcribed by me in the NARA a few days ago. I submitted the info to the Knox County, Kentucky list. Never even thought of posting it here. At anyrate, these are all Ray County, Federal Census with added notes of parents spouses relations and so forth. Cassy. RESPONSE: I am going to take Cassy's census postings from 1880, 1900, 1910 & 1920 Missouri and add in some references connecting them back to Knox Co., KY . Thanks again, Cassy, for these census listings. RESPONSE FROM JOYCE: This is Edward/Edmund MESSER b. abt. 1816 in Knox Co.; s/o Moses MESSER and Winnie GoLDEN who it is said had a lst marriage to an Arin WALKER TAYLOR about which I know nothing; married 2nd to Annabelle/Anna/Ann PATTERSON, b. abt. 1815; d. aft. 1880 in Knox Co. and divorced her and starting having babies with and finally married Mary SCALF, b. abt. 1849. Mary SCALF was the dau. of Peter and Charlotte "Lottie" HUBBARD SCALF. She and Edward married 2-23-1871 in Knox Co. On the 1870 Knox Co., Edward is listed with Mary SCALF and some of their children; his children with Ann PATTERSON WALKER MESSER and even Ann herself, along with her dau. from her lst marriage. Anna PATTERSON WALKER MESSER (dau. of John William PATTERSON and a wife, Jincy Jane/Jency UNK.) was married to 'a' John WALKER. We assume he would have been the son of either the old John WALKER mar. to the Lucy UNK. WALKER of Knox Co. or the son of my ggg-grandfather, Walter and Annie UNK. WALKER. In any case, he died by 1833 leaving Anna PATTERSON WALKER with a dau., Elizabeth or poss. Elizabeth Jane. Edward MESSER and Anna PATTERSON WALKER MESSER marr. 2-2-1834 and proceeded to have a family of around 9 children. 1880 Ray County Missouri Census Household 277-280 Messer, Edmond 64, m, Farmer ..Mary, 35, wife (nee SCALF) ..Elihu, 13, son ..Anthony, 11, son ..Nannie, 9, Dau ..John, 7, Son ..Thursa, 5, Dau ..Jessie, 3, Son ..Margaret, 10/12, Dau RESPONSE FROM JOYCE: Below is Henry MILLS, b. 6-11-1836 in Knox Co.; d. in MO 9-21-1930; married 2-23-1871 in Knox Co. to Lucinda WALKER b. 8-11-1842; d. 6-25-1890 in Ray Co., MO (dau. of Brice WALKER and Nancy BINGHAM). Henry MILLS was the s/o John "Big John" MILLS and Lucretia/Creasy BAKER. In his pension application dated 1915, it is stated that he moved to Pettus co., MO in 1867; to Howard Co., MO in 1870; to Jackson Co., MO in 1872 and finally to Ray Co., MO by 1884. He had served with the Union Army as a Private in Co. I, 7th Reg. KY Vol's and was discharged in Oct. 1864. 273- 276 Mills, Henry, 41, m, Farmer ..Lucinda, 35, wife ..George, 17, Son ..Annie, 15, Dau ..Nancy, 10 Dau (this was the first child born in MO) ..Marion, 8, Son ..Arthur B, 5, Son ..Jas, 2, Son (James) 1900 Ray County Census Clevendger, Nord (?), Aug 1853, 46 ..Sarah, wife, Nov 1855, 44 ..Erdil, (?) He was married lst to Calvina WOOLUM who d. abt. 1862; he married 2nd May 23, 1866 to Dicie MESSER (dau. of Edward MESSER and Anna PATTERSON WALKER MESSER). It was most interesting to see Jane WALKER listed on the 1900 Ray Co., MO census listing. After their divorce and the move of Edward MESSER and his wife, Mary SCALF, to MO, this Jane is listed as follows on the 1880 Knox Co. I looked at this listing for years before it dawned on me who it must be: Dwelling 421-424 - 1880 Knox Co. - - residing bet. James W. TAYLOR and Allen MESSER , etc. WALKER, Jane, 43, head of household, dau., "divorced", b. KY; father b. KY ; mother b. NC MILLS, Martha A., 10, at home, dau., b. kY; parents b. KY WALKER, Annie, 73, at home, MOTHER, "divorced", b. NC; parents b. NC I finally decided this must be Annie/Anna PATTERSON WALKER MESSER who having been divorced by her husband, Edward MESSER, went back to using her WALKER married name. And that Jane was Elizabeth Jane WALKER listed as her dau. after she married Edward MESSER. And somewhere along the line, I think this Jane WALKER married one of the Nasby MILLS, had Martha A. MILLS and they were divorced and she went back to using the surname, WALKER, also. Apparently somehow and at some point, she made her way to MO and joined her half-sister, Dicy MESSER who married Anthony MILLS. However, it must be noted that Dicy A. MESSER, b. abt. 1842 also had an older sister, Jane MESSER, b. abt. 1835. But, unless she married a WALKER somewhere along the way, I must assume at this point that she is the half-sister of Dicy MESSER. Anthony and Dicy MESSER MILLS are still in Knox Co. as of the 1870 Fed. Census. 257-257 Mills, Anthony, May 1829, 71 M33 (Anthony is the child of John Mills and Lucretia Baker) ..Dicy, Aug 1841, 59 9 children 6 living (Dicy is the child of Edward Messer and Anna Patterson) ..Cornelia, f, July 1878, 21 ..Sally, f, Oct 1883, 16 Walker, Jane Sister-n-Law, Jan 1833, 67, Widow (From Joyce Collins notes regarding the 1880 Census: thanks Joyce :-) this is Elizabeth jane WALKER, only child from the marriage bet. Ann PATTERSON to John WALKER in 1831. This John was dead by 1833 and we don't know if he was a s/o John WALKER or Walter WALKER but I think it probably was our Walter WALKER!!)
