According to "History of Ray County, Missouri" by James W. Black, in 1832, Ray county furnished one company led by Capt. John Sconce & later Capt. Wm. Pollard marched to the northern portion of the state & then east to the Grand River county to prevent incursion of Black Hawk's men into this state & to quiet the Indians then inhabiting what was called the "Platte Purchase" & other Indians to the north. My question: Does anyone know of the existence of any papers (letters, orders, reports, rosters, etc) regarding this action. Family history states that Joseph H. Ball was involved in the Black Hawk War. He was in Ray county at the right time, but I can find no proof that he was part of this company. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look?
