Dear Kay, I looked in both history books for Ray County, 1883 and 1973 The 1881 history book only had that at one time it was called Crab Orchard. The history book also states that there is very little known about Elkhorn. There is a picture of a platt for the town of Elkhorn, but it never was developed. There isn't any mention of a mill in Elkhorn in the history book, but of course that doesn't mean that there never was a mill there. The 1973 history books does talk about a store in Elkhorn, but it not longer exists. Elkhorn is on Highway 10 west of Richmond and east of Excelsior Springs. All that is there is a bend in the road as mentioned and some house's and a meat market that is for sale.
