I have a copy of a deed taken from Deed Book 28, Page 238. In it James Hughes, Thomas McGinnis and wife, Lucinda McGinnis, sold a piece of land In Hardin, Ray County, May 26, 1882. Julius Tombs, an ancestor of my husband, bought it for forty dollars. On the censuses, this area was listed as Crooked River Township. I hope this helps.
