I have two questions. Would anyone know if there were any major epidemics and/or weather catastrophes that occurred in Ray County or MO in general during the years 1843 thru 1901? I am especially interested in Ray County for the year 1859. And, are there mortality schedules available for Ray County? Again, especially for the year 1859. Pat Stano-Carpenter
Pat, There supposedly was a cholera epidemic in Ray Co., Mo in 1854. Both George Phillips, his wife Mary G. Paul Phillips died 2 days apart in June of 1854. There were also non-fatal attacks of cholera on a few of the children but they seemed to have recovered. I have the doctor's bills for the visits that were part of George's probate records. Sorry nothing more specific. I have an Idella Josephine Grimes (b. 1863) married to Thomas Asbury Kincaid (b. 1865) in my tree. They're slightly off my main branch, however. T. A. Kincaid would be the brother of my great grandmother, Mary Ellen Kincaid. You mentioned that you had some photos -- would that list include Idella and/or T. A. Kincaid? If so, I would love to get copies. It would bring me that much closer to seeing for the first time what my g grandmother, Mary Ellen, looked like. Thanks, Mike Bailey mike@blueoak.com

She can be found living in Ray county, MO on the 1850 census living alone, but close to her daughter Barbara. Nancy states that she was born in TN. She can not be found in the 1860 Ray county census. In the Grimes Family Bible Record posted on the Kincaid-L email list it states Nancy is "buried in Campbell Co., TN. This bible was posted as being in the possession of Earl Kincaid. It state that her death date is 15 Mar 1864.

I am also a descendant of Henry Grimes and Lucinda Ford, through John Pierce Grimes. I have several Grimes pictures. I also believe that Henry Grimes 3rd wife was Sarah C. Petree. It is on the Ray Co. marriage records, and when going through old family pictures, I have found pictures of families by the name of Petree. The kincaids were also related to the Petrees and to several Grimes, so I feel that Sarah C. Petree is probably the correct spouse. Would love to find out more about Lucinda Ford and Nancy Carlock. Will be willing to scan and send pictures of the Grimes that I have. I know that I have pictures of John Pierce Grimes, James Nathan Grimes, and Mary Lucinda Grimes, as well as Frank, Marvin, Idella Josephine, Sarah, William, Olen, and others. I have several pictures that we do not know who are, and am hoping to get them scanned and on a site, and perhaps others can identify them.

His first wife was LaDocia Pugh, and they were the parents of Mary Florence Mayberry who married Syvester Crittenden (Crit)Edgar, which were the parents of my grandmother, Florence Ditzer Edgar Kincaid. His second wife Margaret Edgar was also my ggaunt, as she was the sister of Crit Edgar. That made my grandmother and her descendants doubly related to the children that John and Margaret had after they married. I have pictures of my great grandmother with his daughter Neola, as well as some other pictures of her, and my have other pictures of his sons. My grandfather and father new most of his children and grandchildren quite well. I asked him if he knew where John was buried and he told me that John was buried at Ray Co., MO. I am not sure which cemetary, but I know that several of my ancestors are buried at New Hope and some at the Kincaid cemetary. I will try to find out more from him. We have a lot of family pictures, but! do not know who everyone is in them, so I do not know if we have a picture of John or not, but we do have a couple of pictures of Margaret, and of Crit Edgar. We are also attempting to find out all that we can about the Mayberry's, Edgars, Kincaids, and Grimes which all came from Ray, Co.

She was a Dagley by birth, her mother's maiden name was Dorcas Crowley. Her father was James Dagley, II. She was born right next to Ray County Missouri, at Liberty, Clay Co., Missouri, July 20, 1822, and died in Jackson County, Oregon, May 29, 1898. She was a school mistress, and "head" of the Little Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. The church had a schism, and she and Abe took it on the road. It became known as the "Chuch that travelled". Elizabeth came to Linn County in 1843 married to Joseph Turnage, a Primitive Baptist reverend. He died and she remarried to Abraham Miller, Jr. (whose first wife, Julia Ann Miller had recently died. She was killed as the result of an exploding Pot Belly stove, that someone had hidden Black Powder in "to keep it dry, she stoked the stove and it exploded.) They subsequently moved to Jackson County. Abraham was a School administrator, and Elizabeth Miller was known by my grandmother as "Elizabeth Crowley", also Bess.
