Surnames: MORRIS SMYLIE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XNB.2ACI/407.1 Message Board Post: According to a book of Ray County Marriages by Joyce Swearingin, James MORRIS married Celia S. SMILEY on 13 Mar 1879. James was living with his mother and brother in Knoxville Township, Ray County, MO in 1870. He was 21. James W. MORRIS was living in Knoxville Twonship, Ray County, MO in 1900. His wife was listed as Martha L. born Sept 1864. They had been married for one year. Also in the household was Samuel B. SMYLIE, father-in-law born Jul 1828 and Harry H. MORRIS son, born Oct 1889.I could not find a record of their marriage. I believe that Celia and Martha may have been sisters. I found a Samuel B. SMYLY living in Knoxville Township, Ray County, MO in 1870. His wife's name was Maria. He shows a 12 year old Celia but I don't see a Martha. Also in the house is 24 year old John MURPHY and Lucinda MURPHY age 18. I don't know where Martha would be. In Knoxville Township, Ray County, MO in 1910, James W. MORRIS and Mattie L. are living alone. Maybe Mattie is short for Martha.
