I am looking for descendants of people buried in the Cramer Cemetery, in Ray County (Clark/Cramer/Van Wall), on property that used to belong to the CRAMER (CREAMER?) family, I believe. I just visited this cemetery, and it is in very poor condition. If anyone descending from these Pioneers would like to join me in finding a way to rehab this cemetery, and keep it maintained, I would very much like to hear from you. Some of the people buried there are: Jesse Lee and Lizzie PARDUE CLARK, Jane and Doctor John CLARK, Susannah MCDONALD CLARK, Susannah MCGEE ROBERTSON, James WALLACE, Perneta PARKER, Doctor Anderson and Amanda JONES CLARK, Jane and Nathan SCHOOLER, Eliza, Irena and Joshua GRITHFIELD, Anna CRAMER, Della CLARK SMITH, Hiram J. and Elizabeth THOMAS CLARK, Jacob and Sarah CRAVEN, Anna CRAMER (wife of J.H.) Ruth CREAMER (wife of John H. CREAMER), Lizzie and Van WALL, Emma and J. KELSAY. Also, any ideas on where to start on a project like this would be appreciated. It looks like the earliest burial here was about 1843, the last was 1938. It looks like the oldest person buried here was born in 1803 and came to Ray County in about 1832. I descend from the Clarks who are buried here, Hiram and Elizabeth, and Hiram's mother, Susannah. The Historical/Genealogical Society has a transcription of this cemetery, or I would be happy to fill in dates for anyone buried there, from my transcription. Ronda Culp McCrary

As a family genealogist, I have learned the value of original documents. I have found many misleading mistranscriptions & published material with inaccurate information. If you have original records to refer to, more accurate results can be obtained and some errors corrected. The 1877 Historical Atlas has been a helpful resource to me as it has been to many other researchers, but I have recently found an error in it as well. By checking the deed books at the recorder's office (Book 12, p188, 1 Apr 1874), I was able to determine that the small acreage in Sec. 23 Range 52 N 28 W adjoining Wm. Dalem Samuel C Settle, J Rush, T H McGill and T. Donhoe shown as belonging to J. E. Barr, actually belonged to J. E. Ball. I report this for the benefit of anyone researching the Barr family as well as other Ball researchers. Having said that, I was quite disturbed by an article I found in a copy of the Richmond Missourian, entitled Reminders of Olden Time" which said in part: "A representative of the Richmond Missourian has bee searching through some of the ancient papers saved from the recent cleanup of the ded documents of the past hundred years, in the state capitol in Jefferson City, Missouri. Three of the legal documents of the year 1816 are now on exhibition in The Missourian office, these papers having been condemned and consigned to the flames, but later permitted to be saved as souvenirs of other days, that relatives now living might see these mementos of yesteryear. Of course these papers now have no record value. One document is dated Nov. 23, 1846 signed by Wm M. Jacobs, County Clerk, by R. Jacobs, deputy, George L.(?)Wasson was appointed as agent of court to receive from State Treasurer $191.85 due to Congressional grant of 5000 acres of land. On July 21, 1846, papers show same County Clerk, but Jas. B. Turner was deputy. John A Hannah as County Assessor returned ?1,700 ( hard to read) assessment lists for 1846, for which he received the magnificent sum of $143.00 for the year's assing work, after getting additional warrant of $71.10 for his book and extra work as Assessor. November 2, 1846, is dating of a court expense bill paid by state from Ray county. it is signed by R. Sevier, Circuit Clerk. Major Sevier wrote with a steelplate hand. One case was against Wm P. Mattox, a criminal charge. Hardy Holman signed as Sheriff, and James S. Ball as Jailer. The jail board bill paid shows to have been 25 cents per day in 1846. Austin A. King signed these papers as Circuit Judge==the man who later became Ray County's only Governor." The article continued but I did not copy it all. Unfortunately, I neglected to get the date of the paper off the microfilm, but it was after 1920. Perhaps the following information will be helpful to anyone wishing to date this column. Others named on the same page: Golfers; L. Megede, Rev. Raymond C. Lippard, Dr. & Mrs. C. S. Brown, B. F. Shotwell, Mr. & Mrs. Newton Hamacher, Miss Emma Barth, Mr. & Mrs. Berry Akers, Mr. & Mrs. D. Higdon, Mr. & Mrs. R. Hughes, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Dunn Death; Mr. George R. Akers of Kansas City (others mentioned in obit-J. T. Akers, W. T. Akers, Miss Lissie Akers News; Lexington Miners Will Take a Car of Missouri Product to the State Fair. Among those Missourians actively supporting the Missouri First Idea are State Labor Commissioner Roy B. Hello, I am searching for information regarding (Dr.) Albion Hathaway HARRIS b 1847 in Nova Scotia, d 1894 "near Campbell", "buried near Kearney" (from family notes); (wife Annie Gertrude MacLEOD, also b in Nova Scotia and died back in Nova Scotia). This Kearney could be in Missouri since his youngest daughter, Cassie Lelia HARRIS was born in Richmond, MO June 17, 1891, not far from Kearney, MO. I see on a map. Dr. HARRIS was registered as a physician in MO in 1890 according to the Directory of Deceased Physicians. I am trying to find any information about this man. I know alternatively our Kearney could be in Nebraska, (both Campbell and Kearney are in Nebraska) but have found absolutely nothing on that search, so I am now adding MO in the search. Thank you for any guidance. Judy

I thought I gave you this info, but maybe not. Constant Haslin Perkins is really Constantine Haslin Perkins. The 1850 Cedar County Census shows the name "Constant" which apparently was shortened for reasons of space on the form. His wife was not Porthena but Parthena Edens Ball. Also in the household was Parthena's younger brother & sister, Joseph E. Ball (my ggrandfather) and Malinda Ball. They were all back in Ray county by 1860. I say "back" because the Ball family came to Ray county about 1825 from Athens, Limestone county, AL. Contact me by private email again. I have more, including C. H. Rhonda, There is a good article pertaining to the Woodson Institute on page 246 of the 1973 History of Ray County. The article includes a picture of the building which is no longer standing. The following is taken from the article. However, if you can get to a copy of the history such as by visiting the Ray County Museum, which also has artifacts from the institute, that would be much more informative than what I have extracted here. "In 1889 the Plattsburg Methodist church district of which churches in Ray County were members, met in Excelsior Springs. It was decided to build a school of higher learning in the district. Richmond made the largest pledge of money and grounds, therefore was selected as the site. The five acres upon which the present Woodson grade school (now Woodson-Deere School) stands and the football field is situated were given by Thomas D. Woodson and the school was named in his honor. (The site is at the intersection of E. Main St. and S. Institute St. in Richmond.) Grades one through twelve were taught, the last four years constituted a "prep" school for Central College, Fayette, and Missouri University, Columbia. Although this was a Methodist-sponsored school, it was nonsectarian in student acceptance practice. However, all students had to attend chapel every morning and have a copy of the Bible in their desk for reference. The school began classes in 1890. Mrs. Arthur Chenault (Louise Hughes), a graduate of Woodson, said: 'We had an excellent and demanding course of study. Four years of French, Latin, English, science, zoology, biology, advanced math, including calculus-not to mention music, art, literary societies and sports. When I later attended Christian College I found I had already completed many of the courses offered.' ... However, the Methodist conference was in financial difficulties and withdrew its support in 1914. The local churches did not feel they could continue the school without outside help and after a bitter battle it was voted to sell the $40,000 investment to the Richmond school district for $10,000 in 1915. ..." As noted above, I have omitted a bit of the article. Nevertheless, I hope that it answers your questions.
