I am 76 years old and my grandparents were botn in the 1860's so I would like to know the names of your Kellers if they are younger as some could be around my age. Vivian

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XNB.2ACI/294.1.1 Message Board Post: Carla: You have surely provided me with much information with your posting! I had little about P.M. Pinckard and his wife, Mary William Young as this is a somewhat lateral (yet very important) line. I will have to do some quick reviews of Ray County materials I have, but it seems to me that P.M. Pinckard, the professor, was a highly respected teacher in Ray County. I will look through my local history books and get back with you. You also mention another name, Rainwater, which I have in two different lines of mine (maternal and paternal). Do you have any information on Mary Rainwater's parents or her birthdate? I have Seborn S. Young (a brother to Warren A. Young, hence brother-in-law to Harriet V. Foushee, the interviewee) married to Catherine C. Rainwater, b. Nov. 11, 1835, d.May 31, 1907 in Ray County, MO., married Nov. 16, 1851 in Millville, Ray County MO. Catherine C. Rainwater was a daughter of Reverend Moses Rainwater (b.1815 d. 1895) (some information on him in 1881 History of Ray County-I'll look up if you have interest) and his wife Elizabeth. I have as a sister to Catherine C. Rainwater, Alice M. Rainwater w/no additional information other than Alice married a ? Sanderson. I also have Harriet Francis Rainwater (b. 1845, d. 1922 daughter of Aaron Rainwater of North Carolina and Mary Elliot of TN), married to Solomon Jones, Jr. in 1869. Harriet Rainwater and husband also of Knoxville, Ray Co! unty, MO. As promised I will get back to you ASAP on any Pinckard information I might have. Would appreciate any information you have. Thanks for YOUR response to my message.

In my old PINCKARD family Bible, I have the following entries: "Patrick McLene PINCKARD, Jr., Son of P.M. & Lucy J. PINCKARD was born on the 12 of July, 1853. Patrick McLene Pinckard, Jr. was baptised by Bishop James OSGOOD ANDERSON at his Grandfather LYELL's on the 4th of October 1853. P.M. PINCKARD was married to Mary W. YOUNG Dec. 22nd, 1886. Millville, Mo." His father, Reverand Patrick M.Pinckard, Sr. died "September 23rd,1871 in the city of Nevada of Typhoid fever and is buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis. He was fully conscious and was prepared to go." Another Ray County marriage is entered, that of his brother, "John William PINCKARD was married to Mary RAINWATER of Ray Co Mo, March the _th 1870." The Bible contains many entries for this family, other than the two brothers' information, as there were five children, including my GGM. I will be happy to share the information with anyone who is interested. I am also interested what connection the Pinckards had to Ray County, as most of their lives seem to have been spent in Northeastern counties of Missouri. Also, the interview writer referred to P.Mack Pinckard as having been her professor. I would enjoy learning more about the family. Carla Hunter Southwick

    1. [MORAY-CGA] "Sexton's Creek Letter"
    2. Ronda McCrary
    3. Hi, Maybe someone can help me unravel a mystery. I requested a back copy of "Ray County Reflections" (March 1994) because there was an article titled "Sexton's Creek Letter", which was addressed to my Great Great Great Grandfather, Hiram Clark. When I looked at the page the "letter" was on, all that was there was a photocopy of what looks to be the envelope, written with the address and the return address. There is no mention of an actual letter. The text of the article said: "The following was submitted by Betty Hill Gundy and is partly taken from LINN'S STAMP NEWS, Jan. 19, 1994." "This letter addressed to Hiram Clark, Knoxville, Ray Co., Mo. was found on the floor of an abandoned farmhouse in Missouri many years ago. The entire letter consists of a single piece of parchment that has been folded. It is from Sexton's Creek, Ky. June 30th, 1849." (My G-G-G grandfather died a week later of blood poisoning.) My questions are: What is LINN'S STAMP NEWS? Does anyone know where the original letter/envelope might be? Does anyone know if there was a letter found with the envelope? Who found the letter, and where was the abandoned farm house? Is there someone I could be put in touch with that might have these answers? As usual, the more I find, the more questions I have! Thanks, Ronda McCrary

    3. Thanks Lisa for the list of things to think about. This may get me inspired to start making notes about the events you mentioned and the effects of them on my life. Sometimes we get so busy searching our roots and wondering why they didn't leave diaries, journals, any kind of notes to tell us about their lives that we forget some day we will be the past. I always wondered why some of our ancestors came out to Oregon then I think do our children even know why we moved from the Willamette Valley in Oregon to East of the Cascades to Central Oregon and I bet they have no idea. I will get started on this project this week. Lorelee
