    3. I am searching the Russell Family of Elgin. Thomas Russell married Ann (Helen) Douglas Dec 7, 1805 Elgin Children: James 1806, Mary 1808, Ann 1810, William 1812 and Thomas 1816. James may have married Anne Ogilvie Dec 1840 Elgin Mary may have married Angus Sutherland Feb 1835 Elgin Ann may have married James Henry June 1836 Elgin William may have married Agnes Henry Dec 1836 Elgin Thomas married Janet Urquhart January 1, 1837, Elgin. I have copies of their marriage from Scotlands Peopole but they don't list parents names so am not sure if these are my Russells (Rufsell). Question - is this the only information on the parish records that appear in Scotlands People or is their more information like parents names? If anyone have these names in the family tree, I would love to hear from them. Joan B.C. Canada

    3. I have Russells (the double 'ss' looks like an Fs, but isn't, in the old writing). The Russells I have are in the early 1700's in Alves. Old Parish Record's seldom give a father's name, but I have ON occasion see it. Rarely!! After 1855 you can get the marriage registration and that will give them, from Scotlands People and also check freecen.rootweb.com for the census info. I would suggest you go to Scot's People and get the death registrations, and then you should know who the parents are. But beware there are mistakes there as well. People aren't always at their best when registering a death...Goldie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joan" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 11:47 AM Subject: [MORAY] Russell family of Elgin >I am searching the Russell Family of Elgin. > > Thomas Russell married Ann (Helen) Douglas Dec 7, 1805 Elgin > > Children: James 1806, Mary 1808, Ann 1810, William 1812 and Thomas 1816. > > James may have married Anne Ogilvie Dec 1840 Elgin > Mary may have married Angus Sutherland Feb 1835 Elgin > Ann may have married James Henry June 1836 Elgin > William may have married Agnes Henry Dec 1836 Elgin > Thomas married Janet Urquhart January 1, 1837, Elgin. > > I have copies of their marriage from Scotlands Peopole but they don't list > parents names so am not sure if these are my Russells (Rufsell). > > Question - is this the only information on the parish records that appear > in Scotlands People or is their more information like parents names? > > If anyone have these names in the family tree, I would love to hear from > them. > > > > Joan > B.C. It's not a real 'f' - just one of the ways they used to write 's'. > Question - is this the only information on the > parish records that appear in Scotlands People or is > their more information like parents names? If you have the images of the parish register entries from Scotland's People, you have all the available information relating to those events. Marriage records in the parish registers generally don't include the names of parents, though there are exceptions. However if they all died in Scotland after 1855, their death certificates should tell you the names of their parents. In each case go for the wife first, because she should be indexed under both her maiden and her married name. Have you looked for them in the 1851 census? The census listing should tell you their ages and birth parishes, which will help to work out whether you have the right people. The 1851 census of Moray is online at http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl You might also find some useful information at http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp Hope this helps Anne

    3. Hi Anne Thanks very much. I have tried looking for death certificates couldn't find them. Also checked the 1841 census, couldn't come up with anything. Did come up with William and Agnes and their children in Elgin, But that was it.
