This Margaret Bain - was she ever a McBain or strictly a Bain? You stated her father was a John, correct? Cam ----- Original Message ---- From: Sherry Williamson <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, April 7, 2008 9:17:52 PM Subject: [MORAY] Calder Family - Correction My James Calder was born in 1785 to William Calder and Isobel Lamb. His grandfather, James Calder, is listed as a witness. There is no existing / surviving record of a marriage of James Calder to an Isobel Lamb. There are no other records involving this couple other than this christening. I do know that he had a sister Isabella who was born abt. 1790 according to the 1851 Census for Oneida, Haldimand, Ontario. She immigrated to Dumfries, Waterloo, Ontario along with James and some of his children in 1832. Should read: No existing / surviving record of a marriage of William Calder to an Isobel Lamb........sorry ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
>This Margaret Bain - was she ever a McBain or strictly a Bain? >You stated her father was a John, correct? Hello Cam, No, John Calder was her husband and I have not yet started on her side of the family. The problem that I am having is the fact that the mothers were not listed on christening records in Nairn, Nairn during the timeframe that I am looking into. When I do look into the Bain family.....if they were from Nairn, will more than likely run into the same results as this seems to be the norm during this time period (I have also run into this in other parishes, Edinkillie for one comes to mind). I have looked at all christening records on SP for whom I think are family and have tried to tie them in with witnesses but that is equally difficult. For example James Tulloch and Margaret Calder appeared as witnesses at quite a few christenings in Nairn for surnames that do not appear in my family. I cannot assume that they were at this particular family's christenings because they were somehow related. I would like to think so as it would make things so much easier :). I fear that it is time that I called it quits with going back into the Calder family history but it is so hard for me to let go as I have spent so much time with them, even went to burial grounds in Scotland to visit them but unfortunately no one was home or ever lived there :) Many thanks for writing! Sherry
