Sometimes on some of the films you will see a remark "John Smith for mort cloth.5"......which means John Smith rented the mort cloth to lay on the body or coffin for someone's trip (family member likely) to the cemy. They could also rent the bell and have it rung......it's not too often, but some of the parishes recorded this info as it was additional income for them. Of course not everyone could afford it either.
