Hi Hazel I am not sure what you mean as regards nasty words. If you are referring to the fact that family/estate papers are now in England rather than Scotland it has to be remembered that many of these are still in private family holdings not in open access at the National Archives either in Scotland or England. In the case of Gordon Castle the estate and title belongs to the Duke of Richmond and Gordon whose principal seat, I believe, is in England. If this is correct then it would be natural to find the private estate records there. Ian A C Scott
