He died in 1878 in New Brunswick, Canada, arriving there as a young boy of 10 to live with his uncle, John STUART. John STUART was born in 1783 in "Morayshire," according to land grant applications filed in Chatham, New Brunswick, and lived with an unmarried sister, May or Mary. Dear Susan I do not know if my John STEWART/STUART had any brothers. I have John S born 1831 in Boharm, Banffshire. He was a blacksmith. His father was also John S, a blacksmith, and his mother Jane/Janet Thom(p)son. I suspect they were not married as young John was Stewart or Thompson and I cannot reason why he would be known by either name other than being illegitimate. Young John was married 3 times but I cannot find anything positive on his father. He may have married Jane Thompson in Glasgow as I have seen a couple of marriages with the same names but the two names for young John makes me doubt that. I cannot say if John senior had any siblings. Certainly I have heard from someone else in Canada that a John Stewart went to live there. Sorry I cannot help you more. I wish I wasn't so stuck myself! Sheila.
Thanks, Sheila. I will keep your information and maybe we can do some puzzle piecing in the future when other information comes along. Tough work, this genealogy!
