It is going to be extremely difficult to prove a connection, unless you get something like 'Francis Brodie in Forres, grandfather to the child' listed as witness to one of the baptisms. Day labourers in the late 18th century are seldom well documented. Bear in mind that the further back you go, the fewer baptisms and banns are listed in the parish registers. You absolutely must not assume that, just because this is the only George Brodie in the parish registers, he is the right one. I note that as well as George, son of Francis Brodie and Anne Anderson, there were two George Brodies born in Alves and one born in St-Andrews-Lhanbryd in the 1750s who could have been getting married in 1791. I assume that you have looked at http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp and have found the listings there of Francis Brodie and Anne Anderson? Re James Brodie. The Elgin parish register lists the dates of burials in the Cathedral churchyard before 1855, and often gives the age of the person buried. The register has been indexed on LIBINDX, and I see that the only James Brodie listed is one who died in 1819, no age given. I also note that the transcriptions of the 1841 and 1851 censuses on http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl do not list any James Brodies at all in Elgin. Hope this helps (though I suspect it probably doesn't). Anne
