However there are several others 'submitted' (including several listed as 'Of Burghead, Drainie'. Burghead is not in the parish of Drainie; it is in the parish of Duffus, and the use of the word 'Of' is automatically suspect, because in Scotland 'of', correctly used, implies a landowner or member of the gentry. It is, however, used in the IGI merely to indicate that whoever submitted the information believed that that was where the individual came from or lived.) The gap between the marriage in 1840 and the first properly listed child in 1855 does indeed suggest that there may have been several other children before 1855, and the birth certificate of Charles in 1855 will tell you how many children Ann had had up to and including Charles, and how many of them were still living at that date. The 1841 census lists John and Ann McKay, both aged 20, living in Dunbar Street, Burghead. The 1851 lists John Mackay, fisherman, aged 33, wirh wife Ann, 33 and children James, 9, Margt, 7, Ann, 2 and John, 6 months, all born in Duffus. It looks as if one or two between Margaret and Ann could have died in infancy. There is a gap in the IGI in the parish of Duffus between 1820 and 1854, so it is quite possible that these baptisms are in the parish register. Scotland's People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is likely to have them in its index. > William Logan son of John and Jessie, married Cassandra > Mckenzie in 1899 in > Hosstowie Elgin (is this still Moray? ) It is Mosstowie, not Hosstowie. It is a few miles west of the town of Elgin, and still in the parish of Elgin in the county of Moray. > Does anyone know what become of > Mary Ann Tulloch Logan born 1858 Drainie Moray > William Logan born 1861 > Jane Logan born 1862 > Isabella born 1864 In the 1881 census, William Logan, seaman, aged 46, born Ireland, lived with wife Jane, 46 and daughters Mary Ann and Isabella at 11 High Street, Lossiemouth (parish of Drainie). No sign in the north of Scotland CD of William or Jane. Hope this helps. Anne
