As a child I visited the home of a Miss Kynoch in Fochabers where my mother used to work as housekeeper. We used to visit her when we came to grandads in Llanbryde and I remember it was a large house, especially for one lady and a few servants, who I seem to remember wore uniforms. While mum visited with Miss Kynoch in her bedroom, dad and I were either in the conservatory watching the birds in the aviary or walking around the large gardens and then had afternoon tea. I was only ever allowed to visit her room once, and then only for a short time. Poor dad he was firmly on the ground floor. I seem to remember the house is just off the main road and probably just off the junction, I would love to find the house again. I think Miss Kynochs family were from Keith as she now rests in the cemetery there Does anyone know the house I mean and can point me in the direction for my visit next month. regards and happy hunting Carol
Could this be Frances Wheen Kynoch, who died in Ballater on 28 August 1968 and was buried there, but is commemorated on a stone in Keith Old Cemetery? She lived at Firlands, Fochabers. Her parents were George Kynoch and Edith Wheen, Isla Bank, Keith. This is the family who ran Isla Bank Mills until relatively recently. Firlands is in Lennox Crescent, Fochabers, which is the last part of the A96 entering Fochabers from the east before the mini-roundabout. I don't know the house, but there are not many in Lennox Crescent so it should not be hard to find. Best wishes Anne
Here is the Moray Council link for the house which gives the address. http://public.moray.gov.uk/eplanning/propertyDetails.do?action=showAddress&lpiKeyValue=000FPPBGLI000 -- Jo-Ann
