The "breaking up" was merely an attempt to emphasise the fact that the "al" is pronounced in full, unlike the "avv-" in Alves, the village. But I believe I am correct that the final "-s" in your surname is pronounced as "-sh"? So unless you tell me different, that still means that the two names are pronounced very differently, which makes it unlikely they are linked other than by coincidence.
