I have had to give up on a few lines too. Managed to get back to 1725 on Paternal side in the Inverness-shire area because there was an existing family tree, and with the help of a Researcher who visited NAS to check the Estate Papers of the land they lived on. However she said it was a difficult because of un-indexed papers and that is where extra cost comes in. Funny how you say that Grandfathers met spouses because of the War. That happened with a few of ours too hence English cousins umpteen times removed. My own parents met at the start of WW2 ..... ? Do keep in touch though for you never know what can turn up.
