Hi all I am familiar with OPRs and civil registration records, but my query is regarding the parish records AFTER 1855. What happened to them? Do they remain with the church of origin, or are they sent off to a central repository? Surely the churches still kept records of baptisms, marriages etc after 1855, but where can I find them? I am most interested in Forres and Rothes records. Leonie

As far as I am aware the post-1855 ones were never collected centrally. I would expect them still to be with the original churches. I rang the Session Clerk of Rothes, but he is away from home, and there was no reply from the minister's number. You could e-mail the minister, Mr Robert Anderson, at robert@carmanse.freeserve.co.uk. There are two Church of Scotland kirks in Forres. The Session Clerk of St Leonard's Church is Mr Roy Anderson royand@btinternet.com and the minister at St Laurence's is Mr Barry Boyd barryj.boydstlaurence@btinternet.com For other kirks in the Presbytery of Moray see http://www.moraypresbytery.org.uk/churches/index.php HTH Anne
