    3. Over the past four or five years, I have downloaded quite a few images from scotlandspeople, including deaths, 1855 plus. Although primarily focused on my surnames, I am entering the data gleaned from these records into my Legacy program as well as doing a little research using information obtained from same. At some point, I plan to post this tree to tribalpages as a regional website. This is my last ditch effort to connect with folks who may share my ancestry as well as contribute additional information gleaned from my research. One of the "extras" on a death record was a Janet Georgina Grant who died in 1866 Nairn. What a can of worms! I am so glad that I am descended from poor farmers and the like, else I would never finish my tree. As I try to include records (from free sources) for parents and siblings into these entries (whether they fall into a birth, marriage, death or a census entry), I find that Janet Georgina is descended from a Campbell of Barcaldine and Grant of Duntroon. Her husband a Gordon of Croughly, Banffshire. and from what I have read online regarding the Gordon side, this family alone contributed quite a number of military officers. All being said....the reason for my post (and I always take the scenic route) is that there appears to be a great influx of new information on the net that was not available two years ago or even a year ago. I have learned this from entering Janet. I am truly amazed. After working over a week on this family, this morning I discovered that this week's research was already "loosely" covered by FamilySearch Community Trees http://histfam.familysearch.org/ I know what you are thinking :-)....but this particular database is entitled "British Isles: Peerage, Gentry and Colonial American Collections", compiled from 15 "reputable" texts. Actual dates are off with regard to the above family but there is enough information included to give a good head start. So going back to Janet, I find yet another source (burials) that leads to yet another source (and I am not certain how I will cite this source) Janet's parents were James Grant and Anne Trapaud Grant.. http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/scottishwargraves-ftopic617.html Another really good link if you have military Gordon's - http://www.electricscotland.com/webclans/dtog/gordon_under_arms.pdf The bottom line...google from time to time. Hopefully the links posted will work for you. If not, let me know and I will try and figure it out. Happy hunting to all!

I thought I had finished one branch - that is, taken it as far as possible. Then I stumbled across a tiny snippet of information which led into a vast new branch which I am still exploring :-) Anne
