    1. [MORAY] Kenneth Leal, executed 1773
    2. Hello Liza, I have this Kenneth Leal, born Crookmuir, Parish of Duffus bapt. 16th October 1729 on my tree. He was the only child of Kenneth Leal snr. by his first wife Elspet Kissack. However I'm afraid it's not a romantic picture of a Highwayman holding up a Stagecoach at pistol point that you have here. That night the Northern Mail was actually being carried on foot by a runner, a 14 year old boy named John Smith and although Kenneth got the satchel he was carrying the boy escaped and Kenneth was caught when he tried to cash a Bill of Exchange that was in the haul. As a Messenger-at-Arms in Elgin he had known that that night's post would contain money and as he was heavily in debt he planned the robbery, only to be caught, tried and hung in chains at the spot still called Kennieshillock near Urquhart. This can be found on the present day Ordnance Survey map. I have a lot more information on his family which will have to be sent to you as an attachment. Regards, Alastair MacDonald
